My name is Petrus. I am currently in Grade 12. My subjects are English, Afrikaans, Maths, Science, Geography, Business Economics and Life Orientation. I get high marks for Visual Art and Geography. Business Economics is not one of my strengths. The rest of my marks are average. I participate in the following extra-murals: Soccer, Choir and Drama. My hobbies are: Guitar playing and fishing. Apart from English and Afrikaans, I speak Zulu, Sotho, French and Hindi.

I love working with animals but get very upset when they are ill or injured. I volunteered at the local zoo for a while, but did not enjoy cleaning out the cages – the smell made me feel sick.

I am a good communicator and am comfortable speaking to groups of people, however, I can be short tempered when people are rude to me or when they don’t understand something when I explain it to them the first time. I love spending time outdoors and my ideal holiday is to go hiking or camping. I enjoy the freedom of the outdoors and being able to dress casually.

I am conscientious and self-motivated and have never been in trouble for breaking rules at school. I think that people should follow rules that have been put in place to keep everybody safe – criminals must be punished but they must also be rehabilitated. I don’t smoke or take drugs because I believe that my body is a temple.

I am good with computers and am creative. I believe I could be a good computer programmer if somebody would teach me how to design programs.

My parents are not wealthy and they expect me to pay for my own studies or to get a bursary. I think that studying full time will be very boring for me. The idea of studying part time or doing an apprenticeship appeals to me – that way I can work and pay for my studies so that my parents are not burdened with taking a loan out to pay for me.

The pancreas, an organ that lies near the stomach, makes a hormone called insulin.

Insulin allows glucose to enter the body’s cells, where it is used as fuel for energy so we

the disease is called Diabetes. There are two types of Diabetes. Use the illustrations
