Columbus is selected as one of 5 cities nationally for KIPP expansion

2006

2008 KIPP Columbus opens first middle school with 50 students in 5th grade

KIPP students exceed the state average in reading and science and KIPP Columbus promotes first class of 8th graders who:• Improved math proficiency

from 29.4% to 82.3%• Improved reading proficiency

from 33.4% to 82.3%

2012

2013 KIPP Columbus outperforms the local school district in 9 out of 10 tested subjects on the Ohio state assessment

Construction begins on a new KIPP Columbus campus

New KIPP Columbus campus opens with first elementary school (K-1) and expanded middle school serving over 600 students in total

2014

2016 KIPP Columbus Primary opens, serving 1,100 students in grades K-3 and 5-9, along with an Early Learning Center in partnership with the YMCA of Central Ohio

2018 KIPP Columbus celebrates 10 years of educating and empowering students

By 2020KIPP Columbus serves 2,000 students grades K-12 with expanded childcare and preschool programs

What is the Challenge?

• In the United States, nearly 1 million students drop out ofschool each year with more than half of these studentscoming from 12% of schools.

• By the time the low-income kids in our country reachthe 4th grade, they are (on average) 2-3 grade levelsbehind their middle class peers.

What is KIPP?

• KIPP, the Knowledge is Power Program, is a nationalnetwork of free, open enrollment, college preparatorypublic schools dedicated to preparing students inunderserved communities for success in college and life.

• There are 224 KIPP schools in 20 states and theDistrict of Columbia serving nearly 100,000 students fromPreK-12.

• There are more than 11,000 KIPP alumni currentlyattending college.

• KIPP alumni are graduating from college at 3x the rateof their peers.
