2020 Ashland County Junior Fair Royalty Guidelines and Information:

All Royalty Candidates : Please read the following guidelines and information regarding the

2020 Royalty Program. Please sign and date this document and submit it with your royalty

application. This document does not guarantee you will be on the Ashland County Royalty

Court. Should you be named part of the 2020 Royalty court, you are agreeing to follow the below

contract.

Introduction:

This Junior Fair Royalty Code of Conduct is to be followed by all members of the Royalty Court (King, Queen, Prince,

Princess or Runners-up for the Ashland County Junior Fair Royalty Contest). As the King, Queen, Prince, Princess and

Runners-up you are representing the County’s Junior Fair Program. This includes: 4-H, FFA, Boy Scouts of America,

and Girl Scouts. These organizations actively participate in the Ashland County Junior Fair. You MUST be a

participant in the 2020 Ashland County Junior Fair to participate in the Royalty Program.

Expectations of Junior Fair Royalty Winners:

• Wear the given attire (Sash and/or Crown) when appropriate. (Attire may NOT be worn when going through

evaluations, shows or contests in which you are participating. They may be worn during the livestock sales.)

• Royalty must wear the given sash and crown which they received at crowning. Royalty are not permitted to purchase

or wear a different sash or crown. If those items given to you are lost or damaged it must be replaced at the expense of

the Royalty Member with approval from the Royalty Advisor.

• Conduct yourself in a courteous, respectful and professional manner.

• Dress appropriately at all times. (Inappropriate dress includes: strapless or off the shoulder dresses or tops, tube tops,

clothing that exposes any part of the midriff or cleavage, excessively ripped jeans, short mini dresses, short shorts/skirts

with undergarments showing, inappropriate graphic t-shirts.)

• Use appropriate language at all times.

• Represent Ashland County’s Junior Fair Program as a positive role model.

• Problems/conflicts/disagreements between royalty members and/or family members must be left at home. These

problems will be discussed with the Jr. Fair Royalty Advisor and the Royalty Advisor ONLY. Gossip is to be avoided at

all cost, it hurts everyone involved and makes for a tense experience.

• Abide by the decisions of the Ashland County Junior Fair Board, Senior Fair Board, and the

Royalty Advisor.

Responsibilities of the Royalty Court: (Royalty will reign from the time they are crowned, until the 2021 Crowning Ceremony)

DURING THE FAIR:

• As a member of the Royal Court, you are expected to be at all Jr. Fair Events to pass out

awards as assigned.

when they need you. Please do your best to be on time for your scheduled events.

• Throughout the week, The Ohio Fair’s Queen and Visiting County Fair Royalty may stop by for a visit. Please serve

as a courteous host to these guests, showing them the fairgrounds, answering their questions, and getting to know them.

• The King/Queen and Court will attend the concert on Tuesday evening of Fair which is held in

the Grandstands.

• The King and Queen are the ONLY ones to be at the Livestock Auction to take pictures with

the Grand and Reserve Champion Winners and their respective Buyers.

• Do not walk on the fairgrounds by yourself; always have someone walk with you.

Page 5: TO: Applicants for 2020 Jr. Fair King & Queen Contest · TO: Applicants for 2020 Jr. Fair King & Queen Contest Dear Applicant, Attached are the application forms for this year’s

• Thank you notes to the Royalty Contest Sponsors need to be turned in by the end of the County

Fair. This will be strictly enforced.

AFTER THE FAIR:

• The public will watch you closely; both during and after the fair. Please act in a way that

reflects positively of 4-H, FFA, Girl Scouts, and Boy Scouts in everything you do.

• The Ashland County King, Queen, Prince, Princess and Runners-up will have the opportunity

to represent the Ashland County Fair at a variety of Fairs and Festivals throughout the year.

• When traveling to other fairs: Try to attend the Fair on the day of their Royalty Contest/ Luncheon (if they have one).

This is your best opportunity to support that County Fair and meet County Fair Royalty from around Ohio. If you go on

a day when the Royalty contest is not going on, you will need to check in at the County’s Junior Fair or Senior Fair

Office and ask to meet with their County Fair Queen and/or King.

• Take pictures while you are there with the current royalty, fairgoers, Junior Fair Members, or anyone you come into

contact with. Send them to the Royalty Advisor after you have attended the Fair.

• Do not go to another County Fair by yourself, always take someone with you.

• Travel expenses to other Fairs and Festivals will be at your own expense.

• At Fairs or Festivals you attend, be prepared to say a few words about the Ashland County

Fair. Always be positive in your statements. You are representing Ashland County!!

• The Fair Royalty is encouraged to ride in various community parades at their own discretion, please let the Royalty

Advisor know what parades you are participating in. Please try to choose a different community’s parade each time (ex:

Jeromesville, Savannah, Polk, West Salem, Loudonville, Hayesville). Transportation and registration for the parade will

be arranged by the King/Queen. Prince/Princess and Court are welcomed to participate.

Examples of Behavior and Conduct NOT permitted - including, but not limited to:

Details will be sent when they are available from the Ohio Fair Managers Association. (Not Required)

• 2021 Fair: • The King and Queen will coordinate a Luncheon for the Visiting Royalty on the day of

the Royalty Contest. It is the King and Queen’s responsibility to plan and take initiative

to invite other county’s royalty from around Ohio by extending an invite to royalty you've met, as well as the county

extension offices (who will pass the invitation on to their royalty). King/Queen may seek sponsors and may request a

small stipend from the Sr. Fair Board to assist with Luncheon expenses.

• The King and Queen MUST attend the 2021 Royalty Contest (on stage portion)

Page 6: TO: Applicants for 2020 Jr. Fair King & Queen Contest · TO: Applicants for 2020 Jr. Fair King & Queen Contest Dear Applicant, Attached are the application forms for this year’s

• Present a “Farewell Speech” at the 2021 Junior Fair Royalty Contest. The King & Queen will crown the 2021 Ashland

County Junior Fair Royalty. Prince and Princess will assist with the ceremonies and may also reflect on the previous

year’s activities.

• FAIR ROYALTY PINS: The newly crowned 2020 Queen will receive pins from the

2019 Queen when she relinquishes her crown. These pins should be used for the remainder of the fair and any fairs

visited after, until they run out. The pins are for VISITING ROYALTY ONLY OR to trade with royalty when you visit

other fairs. They are not intended for regular fair goers. Creating the design for the following year (2021) is a new

tradition and an honor to be bestowed upon the queen. The queen is expected to design and create pins for the 2021 Fair

where you will be passing your crown. You can create this pin once the 2020 pins are gone. You are encouraged to

share your pins at any fairs you visit. Design is up to the Queen but must at the bare minimum include “Ashland County

Fair” and the year. Please see the Royalty Advisor for questions around design or process.

. Statement of Agreement for Candidate:

I have read the Junior Fair Royalty Contest Code of Conduct. Should I be crowned to the 2020

Royalty Court (King, Queen, Prince, Princess, or runner’s-up), I agree to abide by all conditions listed above. I accept

all consequences if I choose not to follow the Junior Fair Royalty Code of Conduct. If I am chosen as Ashland County

Junior Fair Royalty, I will follow all rules and regulations put forth by the Ashland County Junior Fair Royalty Contest

Advisor and fulfill my duties as Ashland County Junior Fair Royalty.

Please sign as acknowledgement that you have read the above and you understand what your role
