My Gospel Standards

I will follow Heavenly Father's plan for me. I will remember my baptismal covenant and

listen to the Holy Ghost.

I will choose the right. I know I can repent when I make a mistake.

I will be honest with Heavenly Father, others, and myself.

I will use the names of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ reverently. I will not swear or use crude words.

I will do those things on the Sabbath that will help me feel close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

I will honor my parents and do my part to strengthen my family.

I will keep my mind and body sacred and pure, and I will not partake of things that are harmful to me.

I will dress modestly to show respect for Heavenly Father and myself.

I will only read and watch things that are pleasing to Heavenly Father.

I will only listen to music that is pleasing to Heavenly Father.

I will seek good friends and treat others kindly.

I will live now to be worthy to go to the temple and do my part to have an eternal family.

And it came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth

of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the havens

opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:

And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou are my beloved Son,

in whom I am well pleased.

Baptism

Marie Myer, Friend, Oct 1974,  5

“Me, my Lord, baptize Thee? Why comest Thou to me?”

And John the Baptist bowed his headIn deep humility.

But Jesus said with a gentle smile,“Let your heart be still.Suffer it to be so now,

All righteousness fulfill.”

So down the Jordan’s shallow bankChrist went with humble grace.

Into the stream John lowered HimWith wonder on his face.

When from the water Jesus came,The heavens opened above.

God’s holy Spirit came to earth,A gift of His great love.

And now, my child, your turn has come,You have been baptized too.

The Light of Christ is in your faceFor all the world to view.

The Articles of Faith of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2. We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.

3. We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4. We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5. We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.

6. We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7. We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8. We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9. We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11. We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

12. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

13. We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

What can I do to Prepare?

These are ideas that you can talk about with your parents.

1. Our Heavenly Father wants us to be baptized. Jesus was baptized because He knew our Heavenly Father had commanded everyone to be baptized.

2. We become accountable at the age of eight and can then be baptized. Accountable means that a person is able to choose between right and wrong.

3. To enter the Kingdom of Heaven we must:

Have Faith in Jesus Christ Repent Be baptized by immersion Be confirmed and receive the Holy Ghost

Our Father in Heaven has sent us here to Earth to learn how to live. He has given us commandments to keep so we may someday live with Him again. One of these commandments is to be baptized. We must be prepared by doing certain things, such as:

Attend church Obey our parents Remember Jesus and the many things he has

done for us, when we take the Sacrament. Tell the truth. If we do something that is

wrong we should pray and ask Heavenly Father to forgive us.

Read the scriptures, alone and with our family.

Pay our tithing. Pray to our Heavenly Father.

Stake Baptism Checklist

For 8-year old Primary Children

All 8-year old Primary children baptisms are scheduled on the monthly Stake Baptism Day. The Stake font is located at …

The First Presidency has directed the following regarding Baptismal services for Eight-year old Children of Record: “A baptismal service for eight-year-old children of record should be simple, brief, and spiritual. The service may include one or two short talks on gospel subjects such as

baptism and the Holy Ghost, and a musical selection. Church members should not request special or individual times or prescribe the content of baptismal services…Baptismal services may be attended by family members, close friends and teachers.”

Music is an important part of your planning and does much to invite the Spirit to each Baptismal service. Instrumental, cassette tape, and/or singing by family and friends should lend to a reverent atmosphere. Prelude and Postlude music as well as a reverent musical interlude while the child is changing into dry clothing following the baptismal ordinance, are helpful in creating and maintaining a spiritual mood. Gospel related videos also help to maintain a reverent atmosphere.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to check in and change into white clothing. Some baptism days are full and we need to be able to start on time so that we are considerate of others.

No photographs, video or audio-taping are permitted during the baptismal ordinance. Please take any pictures before the baptism begins or after the meeting.

White Baptismal Clothing and towels are available at the Stake Center (jumpsuits and dresses). Both the child and the person baptizing the child are asked to wear white underwear and socks. Please bring dry clothing (including underwear for both the person being baptized and the person performing the baptism) to put on after the baptism. Girls may wish to braid or otherwise control long hair.

This is the general outline of the Baptism program. The Stake may have several children being baptized at the same time, so their families may have some preferences on music and speakers as well. If you have a special speaker, or music that you would like, please inform us and we will do our best to accommodate all requests. Of course you may choose who baptizes, confirms, and witnesses your child’s baptism. You may
