Draw 2 quick images to help youChristianity• Christians believe that God

created the world from nothing. • The creation included the world,

land, sea, vegetation, sun, moon, stars) and all life form- fish, animals, man.

• It took six days (Fundamentalist view)

Scientific Perspective • Refer to the Big Bang Theory

Hinduism• Brahman is ultimately responsible for

the universe. He used the creator Brahma (his avatar) to make it.

• There are many creation accounts including the account of Vishnu sleeping on a cobra who is then awoken by a lotus flower growing from her navel.

• Inside the lotus flower is Brahma who creates the world. Shiva is also there and becomes responsible for the cycle of life and death.

Why do you need to have an understanding of the different creation accounts?

Think about the implications of these beliefs for a religious believer. If you hold a religious account to be true you will want to follow the guidelines within your religion on how to look after God’s creation.

Religious Attitudes to the Environment. Hinduism• They believe that trees are kind for

five reasons including, giving fuel, providing shade, shelter for birds, the leafs, roots and bark contain medicines.

• Hindus believe all souls will be reborn into more lifetimes on earth, so we have to look after the world for our own future sakes.

• In India, Hindus take an active part in checking government schemes which might damage the environment, such as the building of large-scale dams which could cause the rivers to flood, destroying precious land and animals.

Christianity• Stewardship• Dominion• God created the world and

everything in it.• Respect for the world extends to

all creation (Pope John Paul II)• Christians will be accountable for

their actions on Judgement Day.• St Basil taught people that

consideration of creation would lead to consideration of the creator thus can make you closed to God.
