GOLDEN KEYINTERNATIONAL HONOUR SOCIETYGOLDENKEYwas established as a national organization in 1977, and has recentlyopened chapters internationally in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, andSouthAfrica.SanDiegoState’sGoldenKeychapter,charteredin1981, isoneofover400worldwide. MORTAR BOARDCOLLEGE SENIOR HONOR SOCIETYMMORTAR BOARD is a national honor society for college seniors. The societyrecognizes in its members the qualities of superior scholastic ability, outstandingleadership, and dedicated service to the University. Mortar Board membershipmeansactiveinvolvementoncampusandinthecommunity.Thereare231chaptersnationwide. At the 2003 and 2012 National Conference, the SDSU Cap and GownChapterreceivedtheRuthWeimerMountAwardasthemostoutstandingchapterintheUnitedStates.SDSUistheonlychaptertoreceivetheawardtwice. In2014, thechapterreceivedProjectExcellenceAwardsfortwenty-twoofitsprojectsandtheGoldenTorchAwardforitsexcellenceinsupportingtheidealsofMortarBoard.Tobeconsideredforelectiontomembership,studentsmusthaveseniorstandingforthefallsemesterwithanoverallGPAof3.2andhaveparticipatedandexcelledinscholarship,leadership,andservice.AdmissiontotheSDSUJaneK.SmithCapandGownChapterofMortarBoardishighlycompetitiveandisrestrictedto40studentsayear.Currentprojectsincludephilanthropyprojectsrelatedtothenationalfocuson literacy,awardingaMeritScholarship to themostoutstanding junioratSDSU,hosting theFacultyandStaffAppreciationDinner,andpublishingtheSDSUDailyPlannerandCalendarofEvents(a daily planning calendar and information booklet for the university community).Alongwith theAlumniChapter,thechapterprovidesover$15,000inscholarshipstoinitiatesandgraduatingseniors.

PHI BETA KAPPANATIONAL HONOR SOCIETYThePHIBETAKAPPASocietywasfoundedin1776andisthenation’soldestandprestigiousacademic society forundergraduateswhoexcel in the liberal arts and sciences.TheGreeklettersΦΒΚstandforPhilosophia Biou Kubernêtês,LoveofWisdom,HelmsmanofLife.NuofCaliforniaChapter,charteredatSanDiegoStatein1974,isoneof283chaptersandthefirstofonlythreechaptersinTheCaliforniaStateUniversitysystem.OnlyjuniorsandseniorswhohavecompletedorarecompletingtwoyearsinresidenceatSDSUandwhohaveearned45 semesterunits in residenceare eligible for electionby chaptermembers late inthespringsemester.Studentsdonotapplyforelectiontomembership;itisbyinvitationonly,whichisextendedonlyonce.Tobecomeamember, thestudentmustundergo initiation in thesemesterofelection.Invitationsaremailedtotheemailandpostaladdresseslistedontheofficialtranscript.Tobeconsideredbythefacultycommittee,juniorsmusthaveaminimum3.75GPAoverallandin75semesterunitsofcourseworkintheliberalartsandsciencesatSDSU,andseniorsmusthaveaminimum3.6GPAoverallandin90semesterunitsofcourseworkintheliberalartsandsciences.Coursework must demonstrate breadth outside the major, including 1) one semester of advancedmathematics and 2) proficiency in a foreign language corresponding to a third-semester universitycourse. PHI ETA SIGMAFRESHMAN HONOR SOCIETYPHIETASIGMAisanall-disciplinefreshmannationalhonorsocietyestablishedin1923.Thelocalchapterwasformedin1955.ThepurposeofPhiEtaSigmaistoencourageandrewardhighscholasticachievementamongfreshmenstudentsininstitutionsofhighereducation. SCHOLARS WITHOUT BORDERS:FELLOWSHIP OF INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSSCHOLARSWITHOUTBORDERSisSDSU’snewestmultidisciplinaryhonorsociety.Itwasfoundedin2008topromoteinternationalexchangeandserviceandtorecognizethe scholarly achievement of SDSU students, faculty, and staff.As a fellowship ofinternationalscholars,wesupportprogramswithaninternationalfocusandbuildcampusawarenessofinternationalissuesandopportunities.We strive to inspire SDSU students, faculty, and staff to become engaged and committed scholar-citizensoftheglobalcommunity.Studentswhoareinterestedinaninternationalperspectiveandhavedemonstratedhighscholasticachievement(graduateswithaminimum3.5GPAbasedonaminimumsixunitsearnedatSDSU,andundergraduateswithaminimum3.25GPAbasedonaminimumtotalof30unitsearned,ofwhichatleast12unitswereearnedatSDSU)areinvitedtojoinScholarsWithoutBorders. BETA ALPHA PSIACCOUNTINGBETAALPHAPSIhas been anational honorary society andprofessional organization since1919. In1960,theBetaAlphaChapterwascharteredatSanDiegoStatetorecognizeandpromoteacademicandprofessionalexcellence inaccounting,finance,and informationsystems.This includes thestudyandpracticeofbusinessadministration,opportunitiesforself-development,associatingwithmembersandpracticing professionals, and encouraging ethical, social, and public responsibility. In addition, theBetaEtachapterisanaward-winningchapterthatroutinelycompetesandplacesinbothregionalandnationalcompetitions.OurmembersgaininvaluableexperienceinpublicspeakingandhavenumerousopportunitiestointeractwithleadingbusinessprofessionalsthroughoutthegreaterCaliforniaregionaswell as national and international business leaders. The society conducts professionalmeetings,seminars, banquets, and social activities with professionals in accounting, finance, and informationsystems.Undergraduatesmusthavedeclared a concentration in accounting,finance, or informationanddecisionsystemsandmusthavecompletedatleastone300-levelcoursewithinthemajor,outsideofthebusinesscorecourses.Theymustalsohavemaintaineda3.25GPAinupperdivisionfortheirmajorandoverall.Graduatestudentsmusthavematriculatedintoamaster’sdegreeprograminaccounting,finance, or information systems. BETA GAMMA SIGMABUSINESSBETAGAMMASIGMAwasfoundedin1913,andtheSanDiegoStateUniversitychapterwasfoundedin1960.ChaptersofBetaGammaSigmaarelimitedtoschoolsandcollegesofbusinessadministrationaccreditedbytheAssociationtoAdvanceCollegiateSchoolsofBusiness.Thepurposesofthesocietyaretoencourageandrewardscholarship,topromotetheadvancementofbusinesseducation,andtofosterintegrityintheconductofbusinessoperations.EachApril,membersareelectedfromamongundergraduatesinafieldofbusinessadministrationwhorank in the top 10percent of their graduating class and fromamonggraduate students in businessadministration who rank in the top 20 percent of their graduating class. CHI EPSILONCIVIL, CONSTRUCTION & ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERINGCHIEPSILONwasestablishednationallyin1922,andSanDiegoStateUniversitychapterwasfoundedin1967.ChiEpsilonisdedicatedtomaintainingandpromotingthestatusofcivilengineeringasanidealprofession.Inaddition,thesocietywasorganizedtorecognizethecharacteristicsoftheindividualcivilengineerdeemedtobefundamentaltothesuccessfulpursuitofanengineeringcareer.Tobeeligibleformembership,anundergraduatestudentmustrankscholasticallyintheupperthirdofone’sclassinacurriculumleadingtoabaccalaureatedegreeincivil,environmental,orconstructionengineering.Thecandidatemustalsosatisfyadditionalrequirementsspecifiedintheconstitutionandlocal chapter Policies and Rules of Procedure.
