Toad Data Point - Professional Edition The Toad Data Point Professional edition includes the following new features and enhancements.

Toad Intelligence Central Note: This feature is available in the Toad Data Point Professional edition only and requires access to a Toad Intelligence Central server.

Publishing is Optimized for Better Performance

The process of publishing data to Intelligence Central has been optimized for better performance. In addition to enhanced performance in the Publishing dialog, the process of publishing data to a dataset has been optimized and this improvement is most noticeable if publishing data with a large number of rows.

Script Manager

• This release includes a Script Manager for viewing and managing all Automation scripts published as scripts to run on Intelligence Central.

• To open the Script Manager, click the Manage All Scripts button on the Object Explorer toolbar.

Specify User Account to Execute Scripts

• You can now specify a user account under which to execute an Automation script. This is done when you publish the script to Intelligence Central.

..

• You can also change the user account or password at any time for a script through the Alter Schedule dialog. Changing the password for one script automatically updates the password for all scripts specified to run under the same account.

Authentication Keys

• You can now add a Shared key to objects that already have a personal key applied. In the Object Explorer, right-click an object and select Operations | Set/Change Authentication. Select Use Shared Authentication and enter credentials for the default account to use.

• Beginning with Toad Data Point 3.7 and Toad Intelligence Central 2.5, authentication is now handled at the object level. In previous versions of Toad Data Point and Intelligence Central, authentication was handled at the data source level.

Note: When connecting to an Intelligence Central instance that was upgraded to Intelligence Central 2.5 from a previous release, you must re-authenticate each object you want to access.

Overwriting Datasets

• Now, when you overwrite a dataset in Toad Intelligence Central, the original data is retained until the publishing process for the new dataset is finished. In this way, if the publishing process is interrupted, the original dataset remains untouched.

Create and Specify Databases for Third Party Access

• When publishing an object to Toad Intelligence Central, you can now specify a destination database. This feature is provided for Toad Data Point users who provision data to those who access Intelligence Central through a third party application, such as Qliktech or Tableau. This feature allows the provisioner to store and organize objects in databases which are accessed by the third-party-application.

Rename Objects in Intelligence Central

• You can now rename a published object in Toad Intelligence Central. In the Object Explorer, select an object and press F2, or right-click an object and select Operations | Rename.

Intelligence Central and Cross-Connection Query Enhancements

As a result of enhancements to Toad Intelligence Central, Toad Data Point can now provide a new feature that may make query development more convenient for some users.

• If you are writing a query against a View in Intelligence Central or writing a cross-connection query, you can now use Intelligence Central functions instead of the usual database-specific functions. Toad then translates the function into the database specific syntax, if necessary. This method can be convenient for those users want to use the same query against two different database types or who are writing cross-connection queries. At this time, this feature is supported for only Oracle and SQL Server databases.

Note: This feature is provided as an optional method. For best results when creating a cross-connection query, use the Query Builder to generate the correct syntax.

Integration with Data Point Viewer

• This release includes integration with the new Toad Data Point Viewer. Toad Data Point Viewer is a desktop tool that lets non-technical users easily consolidate, prepare, browse, visualize, and analyze data. You can download Data Point Viewer from the Freeware page on Toad World.

• To send data to Data Point Viewer from Toad, right-click an object or data grid and select Send to Data Point Viewer. The data is saved as a .qbis file and opens in Data Point Viewer.

Data Management Transform and Cleanse Data - New

This release of Toad includes a newly-redesigned and more-robust version of the Transform and Cleanse tool. This new Transform and Cleanse tool includes the following enhancements:

• The Transform and Cleanse window now contains data profiling information. Use this information to help assess the quality of your data and determine where to apply transform or cleanse rules.

• To create a new rule, right-click the data grid and select a rule category or click one of the rule buttons in the Transform and Cleanse toolbar. Then define the rule in the rule editor in the lower pane.

• Toad now reviews the data to be transformed and makes recommendations for new transform and cleanse rules for you to apply. The suggested rule displays in the Column tab in the right pane within the data profiling information. Toad provides recommendations for only Trim and Convert Data Type rules at this time.

• When creating a Calculated Column to transform data, Toad now allows you to use functions supported by the database (for the current connection). To do this, select the Use SQL Transforms option in the Calculated Column rule editor. This also allows Toad to generate SQL for this Calculated Column rule.

• (Oracle and MySQL only) SQL is generated for the underlying query and all the applied rules, if all rules support SQL generation. You can send the generated SQL to the Editor or copy it to use in other applications. Rules that do not support SQL generation display in red text in the Steps tab for easy identification. This gives you the opportunity to modify or remove the rule if SQL generation is necessary.

• To check if SQL is generated for all currently-applied rules, open the SQL tab in the rule editor.

Note: Currently, SQL generation is supported for Oracle and MySQL connections only. For other database types, SQL is not generated and all rules display in red text.

Page 7: Toad™ Data Point 3dev.toadfordataanalyst.com/documents/ToadDataPoint_3.7...2015/04/15  · Script Manager • This release includes a Script Manager for viewing and managing all

• (Oracle and MySQL only) You can now publish transformed data to Intelligence Central as a snapshot or view, if all rules support SQL generation. If all rules do not support SQL generation, you can publish as a dataset only.

Note: Currently, publishing transformed data to Intelligence Central as a snapshot or view is supported for Oracle and MySQL connections only. However, you can publish transformed data from other data sources as a dataset.

• You can now create a Trim rule to trim leading and trailing spaces from values. This rule also allows you to remove ASCII control characters and to consolidate whitespace.

• The Convert Data Type rule is new and allows you to convert a column's data type.

• You can now create a Format rule to format the data in a column. This rule allows you add number, currency, and date/time formatting to values.

Note: Applying a Format rule converts the target column to a string data type in the transformed data.

After modifying data, you can export or publish the transformed data, send the SQL to the Editor, or automate the transform and cleanse task. You can also save your work as a Toad Transform and Cleanse document.

Notes:

• This release of Toad supports legacy Toad Transform and Cleanse documents (.tdc). The legacy Transform and Cleanse tool is retained in this release.

• The Cleanse Data automation activity supports legacy Toad Transform and Cleanse documents (.tdc).

• You cannot publish a new Transform and Cleanse document (.tct) to Intelligence Central at this time. However, you can publish the transformed data.

Dimensional View - New

This release of Toad includes a new tool—Dimensional View. Use this tool to build a custom, multi-dimensional view of data. You can apply aggregate fields and use rollup columns to easily view aggregated data.

• The advantage of the Dimensional View tool is that it allows you to easily create and modify aggregates and groups without modifying the underlying query.

• To create a view, drag columns from the Field List to the work area. Drag columns to the Filter icon to create a filter.

• Right-click a column in the Field List to create a Calculated Field or a Rollup column. Then drag the new column to a new or existing view.

• Right-click a column in the view and add a Percent of Total Graph to easily visualize percentages.

• You can send data to the Dimensional View tool from a table, a view, a data grid, a query, or an Intelligence Central object. You can export a view to Excel or Local Storage or save your work as a new Toad Dimensional View document (.tct).

Connections • Business Intelligence Data Sources - SAP Business Objects XI 4.1 is now supported.

Toad Data Point - Base and Professional Editions The Base and the Professional editions of Toad Data Point contain the following new features and enhancements.

Query Development Background Processes

• The Background Processes pane now identifies the Query Builder or Editor document window (if any) associated with a running process. If you have multiple statements executing simultaneously, this makes it easier to match a running process to its associated document. Click the running process in the Background Processes pane to display the associated document window.

Page 10: Toad™ Data Point 3dev.toadfordataanalyst.com/documents/ToadDataPoint_3.7...2015/04/15  · Script Manager • This release includes a Script Manager for viewing and managing all

• In addition, for each Query Builder or Editor document with an active background process, an animated progress icon displays in the window's tab. This allows you to quickly see which windows have executing statements.

Analyze Joins

• Toad now provides a tool to help you analyze and visualize joins in the Query Builder or a Database Diagram. After building a query or a diagram, click the join between two tables in a diagram. Toad profiles the data based on the relationship between the tables and presents the information in a Venn diagram. Click a section of the diagram to view the values represented by that section.

The Venn diagram also indicates if a join is a Cartesian join. This gives you the opportunity to modify the join before executing the query.

See a demonstration of this feature at the Toad Data Point Community on Toad World.

Note: The Analyze Join feature does not support the following data sources at this time: Google Analytics, Salesforce, Oracle BI Enterprise, Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services, OData, and Azure Data Market.

Sort Columns

• You can now sort columns in a table diagram in the Query Builder. Right-click a table and select Sort. This is useful for finding a column when the table or view has a large number of fields.

Group Execute

• The Group Execute feature has been re-implemented in the SQL Editor. To open the Group Execute pane in the Editor, select Editor | Windows | Group Execute. Group Execute can be used to execute SQL against multiple connections (of the same platform).

Automatic Aliases in Code Completion

• You can now instruct Toad to automatically create and use aliases when you use code completion. To enable this feature and specify options, go to Tools | Options | Editor | Code Completion | Aliases. When enabled, automatic aliasing is applied to tables and views in SELECT statements.

View PDF Files in LOB Viewer

• You can now view PDF files in the LOB viewing pane in the Database Explorer, SQL Editor, or Query Builder. In the Data tab or Result Sets tab, in a LOB column, open the drop-down LOB viewing pane. If the LOB is a .pdf file, it is displayed in the PDF tab.

Automation Throw Error Activity

• Automation includes a new activity that allows you generate an error and add a custom error message to the script execution log. In addition, you can instruct Toad to stop or continue after the error is logged. This can be useful if you want to terminate the script when a condition exists that would not normally cause an error.

Automation Reports and Container Activities

• In activities that allow you to select files created in previous activities in a script, reports generated in container activities are now visible in the File Collection Editor.

Change Password for Scheduled Scripts

• Toad now provides an easy way to change the password for all your scheduled Automation scripts. This feature applies to scripts running locally using Windows Scheduler tasks. To update a password, select Tools | Administer | Job Manager. Then click the Change Password button on the Job Manager toolbar.

Note: To change the password for a scheduled Automation script running on Intelligence Central, open the Alter Schedule dialog for the selected script.

Automation Script Log

• Each Automation script execution log now identifies the name of the user who ran the script and the computer on which it ran. The line is near the beginning of the log and has the following format: Script run by Toad Data Point <version> as <user name> on <computer/server name>.

Connections • Relational Data Sources - This release includes support for Teradata 15, MariaDB 5.5.5, as well as SAP ASE

15.7 and 16.

Installation Toad for Oracle License Keys

In previous releases, Toad Data Point accepted Toad for Oracle DBA Suite license keys. Beginning with Toad Data Point 3.7, these Toad for Oracle license keys are no longer supported. If you are using Toad Data Point with a Toad for Oracle DBA Suite license key, do one of the following:

• If you have only the Toad for Oracle license key specified in Toad Data Point and you upgrade to release 3.7, when prompted enter the Toad Data Point license key included in your purchase email. Or to obtain a Toad Data Point license key, contact your Toad Account Representative or go to https://support.software.dell.com/licensing-assistance for licensing assistance.

• If you currently have both a Toad for Oracle and a Toad Data Point license key specified, Toad uses the Toad Data Point key after you upgrade to 3.7 and no action is required.
