Faith Community Welcomes You

TODAY’S GOSPEL John 2:7-11

Jesus told the them, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them,

“Draw some out now and take it to the headwait-er.” So they took it. And when the headwaiter tast-

ed the water that had become wine, — although the servers who had drawn the water knew —, the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you

have kept the good wine until now.”

Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs in Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples

began to believe in him.

St. Francis heard the Lord speak to him, saying: “Go and rebuild my Church.”

FR. ADRIAN’S CORNER I know that Lent is a while away but I’d like to men on the Parish Retreat during Lent even at this early stage. Ash Wednesday is February 13 and that day will come around very quickly – we are under a month away, be-lieve it or not. The Parish Retreat is designed so that people can simp-ly show up for Mass and a homily three nights in early March. Parishioners who have busy lives might take the opportunity to reflect a li le on the meaning of the sea-son and to prepare for Easter. We felt that an hour in the evening from 7:00 – 8:00 on just three evenings would afford people that opportunity. Our Retreat Director is a Franciscan Friar from Ireland who happens to also to be a bishop in Honduras, Central America. Bishop Michael Lenihan, OFM, has been a Bishop of La Ceiba since February 2012 and has worked in various countries in Central America for over thirty years. Br. Michael and I were students together in Ireland and in Rome before ordina on – he went to El Salvador four years a er being ordained a priest and has minis-tered there, in Guatemala and Honduras, ever since. He is a member of the Franciscan Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Central America. Bishop Michael is of farming stock and his younger brother s ll runs the small family farm back in County Limerick, Ireland. He is an excellent speaker and is fluent in Spanish. In fact, I think his Spanish is be er than his English! His chosen theme for the retreat is “The Year of Faith” which Pope Benedict has called us to celebrate in 2013. I hope that we will have a great turn out for the retreat which is a golden opportunity to refresh our faith with the nourishment of word and sacrament. Bishop Michael will preach at all Masses on March 3, invi ng the parish to par cipate in three days of prayer and reflec-

on – three days for the English-speaking Community 4, 5, 6 March in the Parish Chapel at 7:00pm ll 8:00pm; and for the Hispanic Community 7, 8, 9 March in the Parish Chapel and Serra Center (Saturday 9) at 7:00pm – 8:00pm. There is also A Reconcilia on Service with Con-fession on Saturday 9 March which will be for the whole parish and will be conducted by Bishop Michael. We are con nuing our workshops for ministers begin-ning again in February 2013 with a morning for those who are involved in the Music/Singing Ministry at the Parish. This begins at 9:00 am and con nues ll 12:30. Representa ves from various choirs together with musi-cians will be invited to a end. Later in February we hope to have a morning for Ushers and Greeters - more about that in a later bulle n.
