Looking ahead - (Katherine Marshall)
1. Need to build bridges where Developmental Institutions are open to partnerships.
2. Dialogue between development and FBO’s needs to address issues that divide them, i.e. working groups to define issues, explore differences, build common ground.
3. Need for FBO’s to become full partners to eliminate corruption, a corrosive phenomenon and… for obstacle to development, through better governance.
4. Involvement of women and young people in setting agendas for meetings,……, work progresses, decision processes.
5. Implement joint action on:
Pressing for every girl to attend school, to stay there, help them to succeed, oppose marriage of young children, speak with outrage against violence in home and institutions.
Principles for partnerships
• Work purposefully to set goals and priorities (shared vision)
• Focus on genuine consensus on both objectives and actions
• Be realistic
• Work purposefully to make sure that language is well understood by all (FBO to”impact laguage”)
• Gauge each partner’s capacity with discernment and humility
• Weigh different strengths and balance of power thoughtfully
• Place mentoring and capacity building with creativity, care and humility
• Plan carefully for navigating bumps in road, making changes and evaluating results
• Look objectively to future – longterm financial support, sustainability
