From the mid-1880s Togo formed part of the German colonial empire. From 1897 onwards the German colonial administration was headquar-tered in Lomé – which was then known by its English name, Bey

Beach. The city soon became Togo’s main trade and traffic hub. After the First World War Togo became a League of Nations mandate territory and its administration was allocated to France.

Dear Missions Partners

We have been back to Togo – 20 years after our last visit! The average age

of the population in Togo is just 19 – which obviously means that there is a

whole new generation of young people. Many of them heard the gospel for

the first time during our campaign in Lomé.

What a joy it was to preach to the people in that impressive seaside city. It

was a preacher’s paradise! The people were so hungry, so attentive and so

responsive. For the CfaN team, it was no wonder that Jesus responded to

their open hearts with overwhelming miracles.

Sadly, more than 50% of the people in Togo still adhere to traditional animist

beliefs. That was why it was particularly important for us to speak about the

power of the blood of Jesus and to challenge the occult deceptions that have

kept many in bondage for countless generations. We know one thing – Jesus

is victorious! He has crushed the serpent’s head. Satan has been defeated

and our job is to preach release to those held in captivity.

The crowd of people gathered on the campaign site next to the huge

sports stadium grew from one evening to the next. It was an awesome

sight. We know that things happened during that week in Togo that will

have eternal consequences. We would like to thank you once again for

your prayers and support.

Yours in Jesus

evangelistic material. Simply passing such

material on – as a small “thank you”, for

example – or placing it in a doctor’s waiting

room is an evangelistic activity. God promises

that his word will not return to him empty.

On the first morning, we paid an official visit to the country’s President, Faure Gnassingbé, who welcomed us with open arms. Evangelist Bonnke was able to pray with him privately.

Singing and dancing for the Lord of Lords

This old lady had lost her abil-ity to speak after a terrible fall three years previously. Her son-in-law said that when someone asked her a question she would try to answer but no sound would come out of her mouth. He said that she would often break down and weep out of frustra-tion. Then during the prayer for the sick on the final evening, he heard his mother-in-law start to sing! Daniel Kolenda put the microphone to her mouth and over the massive PA system she sang a beautiful song of praise to the Lord! It was a deeply mov-ing moment for everyone there.

This worship pastor from a local church fel-lowship told us that one year ago he had been singing when suddenly his voice vanished com-pletely. For the past year he had not been able to sing or speak. However, on the third evening of the campaign, when prayer was made for the sick, he felt what he described as “a wash-ing” on his throat and vocal cords. Suddenly he realised that he could speak, sing and shout! When he gave his testimony, Daniel Kolenda handed the mike to him and told him to sing to the Lord. The tears rolled down his cheeks as he wor-shipped the Lord with his voice for the first time in months.

A little boy who had been deaf and dumb from birth was brought along by his next-door neighbour. After the prayer for the sick, the neighbour turned to the boy and asked, “Can you hear me?” The little boy replied, “Yes!” Daniel tested the little boy and was amazed at how well he could hear and speak.

This old woman had had knee problems that were so severe that she was unable to walk. Her pastor showed us how she used to scoot around on the ground. During the prayer she said that she felt power surge through her body. She stood to her feet and for the first time for many years she could walk again! Daniel asked her when she had last danced. “A long time ago,” she said. Daniel asked the worship team to play some “dance music” and together with the thousands present, everyone began to sing, “He’s a mighty God.” The air filled with dust as thousands of feet began to dance.

A visitor from America was thrilled that his leg had been healed on the first evening.

This woman had had a lemon-sized tumour in her right breast for the past three years. She said that during the prayer she felt the lump leave her body. When she checked herself, it had totally disappeared!

... written decisions for Jesus Christ were recorded in Lomé. Over the entire site, thousands of local counsellors mingled with the crowd, ready to give the new Christians the 32-page booklet “Maintenant que vous êtes sauvé” (in English: “Now that you are saved”) and helped them to fill in the attached decision card.

On the final evening, the limited space on the field was packed tight with people! The national stadium – “Stade de Kégué” – next to the campaign site would have been far too small for the CfaN outreach. The crowd could have filled it nearly four times over on that one night alone!

The climax of the Saturday morning Fire Conference was when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the pastors and church workers. After the Rever-end Peter van den Berg had preached, Daniel took up the microphone to pray for the people. He had an extraordin-ary sense of the presence of God and had to fight back the tears. The Holy Spirit fell before he could open his mouth to pray!

The Great Gospel Campaign in Lomé took the CfaN team back to the French-speaking part of West Africa. Lomé is the capital of the small country of Togo, which today has a population of six million. Nearly one million people live in the coastal city on the Gulf of Guinea.

The opening meeting in the capital city was a huge success. The whole city “buzzed” with excitement and anticipation. Many thousands responded to the salvation call on the first night and made decisions to fol-low Jesus.

Evangelist Bonnke preached on the second evening about the woman caught in adultery and the very attentive and hungry crowd hung on his every word. He told them that under the Law of Moses, that adulterous woman should have been stoned. The reason why Jesus forgave her was that he was already on his way to the cross, where he would take her punishment and pay the price for her sin. It was a powerful, holy moment when tens of thousands lifted their hands and accepted by faith the substitutionary death of Christ. This is the pure gospel at work – with the power to change the world!

On the Saturday evening Daniel Kolenda had an overwhelming sense of the sacredness of CfaN’s work in Togo. He preached about our obligation, as those who have been forgiven, to extend forgiveness to others. Many wept as they prayed a prayer of forgiveness.

Then Daniel prayed against the curses in the land, curses that many of the locals were afraid to mention aloud. However, Daniel named them boldly and took authority over them in the name of Jesus. Satan’s power was broken that evening; shat-tered to pieces by the power of peace and the forgiveness and love of God.

Nervous expectation filled the air when the first block of intensive seminars in Germa-ny began a few weeks ago. Since then the-se seminars have been held in five church fellowships and at the Bible School in Bad Gandersheim. Around 600 participants were there to be equipped and were encouraged to live out their faith proactively and to witness to others. Following the four workshops in which the basic concepts and spiritual prin-ciples derived by Reinhard Bonnke and the CfaN team over 50 years of evangelistic mi-nistry are presented, the climax of the se-minars is the time of blessing which brings them to a close. During that time seminar participants experienced healing, were bap-tised in the Spirit and, no less important, many of them received a new vision for their own witnessing. Apart from Germany these seminars have already been held in the USA, Latin America, China and the Czech Repub-lic and further seminars are planned.

Gerry Klein, Head of the Bible School in Bad Gandersheim

(Germany), commented with these words:

It was a great privilege to have Siegfried Tomazsewski from CfaN with us. With his passionate presentation, he convinced the students of the importance of an evangelis-tic lifestyle. The encounter with Siegfried’s convincing teaching and motivation gave many students a heart for the lost.

The feedback from the group was very good, with just one comment: “It was too short!” They would have willingly heard even more about an evangelistic lifestyle.

Siegfried Tomazsewski does not just have a fire for the lost in his own heart; he lit a fire in others’ hearts, too. For us, it was clear that CfaN’s school of evangelism is more than needed in our country and should be taken to the churches.

Many Christians long to take up Jesus’ call to be fishers of men but things often look very different in the light of everyday reality.

Do you feel afraid and ill-equipped to talk to others about your faith? And if you do take that step, are you unsure about what to say or how to lead someone to Christ? If so, an iRBTI seminar could be just what you need!

We were really encouraged to press on forward. Thomas Meyer conveyed the teaching topics clearly and con-cisely and showed how they could be put into practice. His personal style of presentation enabled him to “down-load” CfaN’s spiritual focus to a level that we participants could cope with. Great!KW

At the start of this year, we sensed that the Lord was calling us to engage in earnest, ongoing prayer for Africa. For that reason, we at all CfaN offices worldwide called an International Day of Prayer for Africa on 9 April 2011.

However, the prayer initiative extends be-yond that day. We would like to encourage CfaN’s Mission Partners to pray for Africa not only on that particular day but through-out 2011 and to proclaim the Lordship of Jesus over Africa.

9 April 2011 was chosen because that is the date that had been set for the import-ant presidential election in the most densely populated country in Africa – Nigeria. This will only be the fourth democratic presiden-tial election since the end of the period of dictatorship.

We have every reason to thank the Lord. The presidential elections in the multi-ethnic state that were postponed at short notice until 16 April went exceptionally well and without any major problems. This is because many Christians were praying for Nigeria and the particular situation there. The latest indications put the current Christian President, Goodluck Jonathan, in the lead. In all probability, he will continue to function as head of that nation of nearly 160 million people. Please pray for him to have wisdom, guidance and good advisers and to enjoy good health.

Wahlen in Afrika

Derzeit gibt es 53 afrikanische Staaten mit internatio-

nal anerkanntem Status. Mit der Teilung des größten

Landes Afrikas, des riesigen Sudans – 7-mal so groß

wie Deutschland – würde ein 54. Staat entstehen.

Das Jahr 2011 ist für Afrika ein Superwahljahr.

Allein in 18 Ländern stehen große Präsidentschafts-

zwischen dem moslemisch geprägten Norden und

dem christlich geprägten, dicht bevölkerten Süden.

Nigeria hat eine äußerst wechselvolle Geschichte hin-

Elections in Africa

There are currently 53 African states with inter-

nationally recognised status. The division of Sudan,

the largest country in Africa, – seven times the size

of Germany – will create a 54th state. For Africa,

2011 is a bumper election year. Major presidential

elections will be held in 18 countries, although in

Uganda, Cape Verde and Niger voting has already

taken place. There will also be a number of parlia-

mentary elections and smaller elections in individual

provinces and regions.

PLEASE PRAY FOR

• political elections that are free from fraud or

manipulation. The political system is of major

importance for the proclamation of the gospel and

the situation of local Christians

• the emergence of healthy democracies

• political leaders with wisdom, understanding

and integrity, free from corruption, nepotism,

pride and malpractice

• the presidential elections in Africa in 2011:

11 October Liberia

27 November Democratic Republic of Congo

Why 9 April 2011?

That is the date that has been set for the im-

portant presidential election in by far the most

densely populated country in Africa – Nigeria.

The outcome of those elections is of major signifi -

cance for the stability of West Africa. For decades

Nigeria, a country with great oil wealth, has been

torn between the confl icting situations in the pri-

marily Muslim, poorer north and the increasingly

Christianised, densely populated south.

Nigeria has an extremely varied history. In 1983 a

putsch took place that ushered in a military dictator-

ship. It was not until 1999 that power was handed

over to a democratically elected president, Olusegun

Obasanjo (Christian) – who also opened the door

for evangelism in Nigeria after it had been fi rmly

closed for many years. After two terms in offi ce,

he was succeeded by Umaru Yar’Adua (Muslim),

who died while still president. The former Vice-

President Goodluck Jonathan (Christian, see CfaN’s

Impact 5/2010) was elected president in May 2010.

He is standing for re-election in this year’s presi-

dential elections. The elections will be the fourth

democratic presidential elections since the end of

the period of dictatorship. Democracy in Nigeria is

therefore still young and in need of protection.

PLEASE PRAY FOR

• stability in this signifi cant country

• an end to all hostile confl icts between

Muslims and Christians in border areas and

the “middle belt”

• protection against violent riots, acts of terror

and bomb attacks

• protection against the schemes of various

secret societies that carry out attacks in

the Niger Delta on oil producing plants and

Western companies – especially during the

election period

• clear election results and the problem-free

continuation of political activities

• acceptance of the election among the people,

both in the north and in the south

• spirit-fi lled leaders in politics, business,

education and all other areas of societyA Chr is t for a l l Nat ions prayer in it iat ive – March 2011
