Well, it finally happened. Konami finally went all out to remake the

classicPS2 game, "Tokimeki Memorial: Girl's Side"! The first one was a fantasticgame,and I was hoping that the long awaited DS adaptation would live up toitspopular predecessor.

For those not familiar with TMGS, it's a dating simulation game where theheroine (you) have to play out your 3 years of high school life atHabatakiHigh. With a wide range of different types of guys to go after (when Isaywide, I mean WIDE - you can even date your moustached pricipal, which is

disturbing on so many levels). Konami has also added a bonus characterintothe mix - Tendou Jin, a delinquent from Hanegasaki High (It's the schoolwhere TMGS2 takes place.)

Many changes have been made to the game, most of which fully exploit thelovelytouch-screen function of a DS. You can now poke at your guys whileinteractingwith them on dates and other occasions, and loads of new options for the

mini-games and such.

Another unique thing about this game is that it's played with the DSflippedto the side, so it holds a sort of "storybook" effect. Fantabulous! XD

With all the fantastic add-ons this portable adaptation offers, what're

wewaiting for? Onward!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------KEY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN 1ST LOVE AND THE ORIGINAL [kdif]------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- The touch screen function probably comes as the most defining change,because

you can now poke/prod/molest your in-game guys when you go out with themoraccess special events. NOTE: POKE WITH CAUTION! More on this in the"Skinship" section.

- Multiple endings a la GS2 are now available for the male characters.You canhave a normal (ideal) ending, and two others, which will be elaborated onlaterin the "Endings" section.

- Konami added an extra CG for each of the obtainable male characters(evenChiharu!) Most of them are very squee-worthy, especially Kei's.

- For the ideal ending, you can now access a Kiss Scene with your guy byusingyour stylus to touch his lips when he confesses. The ending dialoguechangesas well, which is pretty sweet :)

- New character added! As mentioned before, Tendou Jin is a (hot)delinquentfrom Hanegasaki High, and you get to pursue him in a manner very similartoAoki Chiharu, the original secret character.

- The mini-games have changed dramatically, though I can't really decideif it'sfor the better or worse. Since there's no more analog stick in thissystem,you're going to have to be a lot more dexterous to get the hang of thenew playstyle in this one. The button-mashing from the previous has now morphedinto afrantic slashing process (for me anyway :< ) The pillow fight becomes alot

easier though!

- Some might be puzzled as to why certain dialogue boxes don't come withanaccompanying seiyuu voice. TMGS: 1st Love channels other popular datinggamessuch as Corda and Harutoki - certain bits of dialogue just don't get

voiced.Too bad :(

- EVS. while it's still present in 1st Love, it's been toned downgreatly, andawkward names don't really register on the DS version. Avoid picking anamewith too many odd sylables that the seiyuus have problems connecting,sincethey tend to just shorten it for you.

- Remember when you had to spend one weekend with Tsukushi just to checkfor

bombs and get phone numbers? Well, all that's been eliminated now. Youcanaccess Tsukushi's room on weekends and STILL get to do an activity afterthat,which is pretty awesome.

- Introduction of a TOKIMEKI PANEL where you check your status with theguys.The panel lets you see how much love/friendship the guys/girls feel foryou,so you can plan your course of action accordingly :) More in the"TokimekiPanel" section.

- Shopping has changed for the better as well - you can now shop in twoseparatelocations at one go, which saves you multiple trips.

- Seasonal changes can be tricky in this one, since you can no longerlook outthe window for telltale signs of season. You can either rely on listeningforthe change of music, or by periodically checking your calendar.

- One of the improvements in this game is that the system reminds you onthe weekends where you have a club activity, so you don't have to keepchecking

your calendar all the time. It also reminds you 2 weeks before you haveyourtests so you have enough time to prepare :)
