To Our Valued Supporters:
The Tom Joyner Foundation is greatly appreciative to its donors who continue to share their love and passion for
Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
We had a very busy year, including the strong growth in visitors to our website – TomJoynerFoundation.org –
along with a steady increase in the number of followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and donations
made online.
Our partners stepped up to the plate with us to help raise money for our HBCUs, and awarding scholarships to
some of our nation’s top students. As part of the fifth annual Allstate Quotes for Education Program raised
$185,000, exceeding the originally set goal of $150,000. Allstate made an additional $50,000 donation to Gram-
bling State University whose students, alumni and supporters voted for Grambling as part of the second annual,
“Show your School Pride” campaign.
We partnered with Denny’s for the Tom Joyner Foundation Hungry for Education program, where students at 10
participating colleges were awarded over $50,000 in scholarships and special incentives were awarded to high
school and college students for their innovative ideas on how to end childhood hunger. The Foundation awarded
$2,500 scholarships to students at 10 participating HBCUs who submitted essays on “ How Can You Or Denny’s
Have An Impact On Hunger In Your HBCU’s Community?”
To help raise funds for Dillard University, he July 2013 school of the month, the Foundation partnered with
Dillard University National Alumni Association and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to engage its thou-
sands of sorors around the world to support Dillard. In support of Grambling State University, the Tom Joyner
Foundation hosted “An Evening Of Soul Happy Hour”. The featured entertainment was Grammy Award winning
R&B singer Erkyah Badu. Florida Memorial University, and the Foundation partnered with Denny’s and South-
street Miami to host an “Art & Hors D’Oeuvres” reception.
As part of our on-going commitment to black male students at HBCUs, we awarded 50 Hercules Scholarships
to scholars from around the country with tremendous backgrounds. Each student received a $1,500 scholarship,
named after our late Board Member and my Grandfather Hercules Joyner.
For the 14th Annual Fantastic Voyage™, nearly 4,000 guests enjoyed another star-studded, Ultimate Party with a PurposeTM that sailed out of Miami, and then headed to Nassau, Bahamas. Entertainment featured Oscar and
Grammy Award winner Jamie Foxx, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Earth Wind & Fire, Tyler Perry and dozens of other
performers who provided our passengers lifelong memories on board the Carnival Glory.
The Tom Joyner Foundation is grateful for an exciting and successful year. Our commitment to HBCUs, and invest-
ing in our scholars is stronger than ever.
Thank you for your support!

Balancing New Technology
On behalf of the Staff and Board of Directors, I am pleased to present the 2013 - 2014 annual
financial report. The report provides a comprehensive picture of the Tom Joyner Foundation’s
finances for the 2013-14 fiscal year and a snapshot of important issues concerning our future.
I am so proud to say that the Tom Joyner Foundation has remained steadfast to its longstand-
ing commitment to making sure that student scholars at Historically Black Colleges and Uni-
versities attain their college degrees. We continued our work with my beloved HBCUs to cele-
brate their accomplishments and contributions in producing the nation’s next generation of
leaders.
As the cost of living and cost of a college education rise, I know how hard it is to afford a
college education, and even after you get into a college, how hard it is to stay there. We
know HBCU students – and their parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles – are working
overtime to invest in their childrens’, grandsons’, nieces’ and nephews’ education.
In 2013 the Tom Joyner Foundation proudly stood beside these students, their families and
the numerous faculty, administrators and staff who work tirelessly to uphold the legacy, tra-
dition and excellence at HBCUs around the country.
Yours truly,
Tom Joyner
Chairman

Integrat ing Soc ia l Media & Fundrais ing
Essential ly, using social media as a form of fundraising
al lows us to reach a generation of donors we may not
have otherwise met
“
” 2013 was a year of growth for The Tom Joyner Foundation. We created a social media strategy that aimed to target younger donors and join them together with our established donor base. We developed strategies for each of our social networks to inform & unify, HBCU supporters with the ultimate goal of drawing traffic to TomJoynerFoundation.org. As with anything you build, it took time and nurturing. Because of our daily efforts in social media, our website has seen a 300% growth rate. This tells us, that our message is being widely spread & received. We have used our social media platforms interchangeably to promote the HBCUS we support, HBCU news, events, scholarship recipients, our yearly campaigns as well as our monthly school of the month campaign. We look forward to 2014 as another year of growth, learning and connecting with you. The strategies we ‘ve implemented through social have allowed us to raise funds and network with a younger generation of HBCU supporters. Essentially, using social media as a form of fundraising allows us to reach a generation of donors we may not have otherwise met.

named after Tom Joyner’s late father Hercules L. Joyner. This scholarship embod-

this scholarship must be male, attend a Foundation “School of the month” have a

The scholars each receive a scholarship grant of $1,500 that is paid directly to their
school to help off-set their college expenses and are announced each week on the
nationally syndicated radio show hosted by its founder Tom Joyner.
