Please continue the great work you are doing to support volunteers to get up to date with their training requirements.
You are really important to making this happen.
What we’re doing now…
• Removed advice that people must alternate between online and face to face training for safeguarding.
• Emails direct to those who are identified as non-compliant.
• Testing email reminders in advance of training expiring

• Extended permissions to ‘validate’ and record learning on Compass to CommissionersRoles that can ‘validate’ in Compass:

Mandatory Ongoing Learning (MOGL) Requirements
Changes to Mandatory Ongoing Learning (MOGL) – from September
Renewal period will be 3 years not 5 years for all MOGL:• Safety• Safeguarding • First Aid (already at 3 years)
The Safety and Safeguarding training will be the same learning for Getting Started and MOGL.
Members will have a 12 month adjustment period from implementation.
First Aid
• Theory can be delivered online (via Zoom or similar platforms) by approved trainers using our approved syllabus
• Validation of practical elements will need to be completed face to face when face to face training resumes
• 6 month extension to training, when we are in green readiness level
• Ongoing review of First Aid training
Role Training Requirements
Role changes – training Requirements
• All members and associate members will be required to complete Essential Information (M1), which will include Changes in Scouting
• All members and associate members will be required to complete Safety and Safeguarding training
• We are seeking feedback on how President and Vice President roles are used locally and the training requirements for their role (they are already required to complete M1 & GDPR).
• All those who have the responsibilities of trustees to complete Trustee Introduction training
Role changes – Training Requirements
Occasional Helpers and Scout Network members:
• Will not be added to Table 2: Appointments • Will not have a requirement to complete training
This is because they are not considered as adult member roles in the same way our other adult appointments are.

I am a Section Leader, Group Scout Leader or Commissioner
If you have completed any of this training you do not need to redo any of it. Except for Safety and Safeguarding mandatory ongoing learning which you need to renew every 3 years.
Getting Started trainingThere are no changes to existing requirements so in the first 5 months of your role (and to move to a Full appointment) you need to complete the learning and validation for: Module 1 Essential Information Module 2 PLP Module 3 or 4 Tools for the job (as appropriate) GDPR
Wood badge trainingNo longer required to complete Module 6 Changes in Scouting.
Mandatory Ongoing LearningYou will need to renew your Safety, Safeguarding and First Aid training every 3 years.

Training role changes
• We are reviewing the role descriptions for the following roles that are affected by these changes:
• Safety Trainers• Safeguarding Trainers• Safeguarding Awareness Coordinators• Safety Coordinators
Appointment Panel meetings
• Emphasis on the importance of Safety and Safeguarding training for those new in role
• Support the volunteer with the next steps in their training journey
Process and System Changes
Compass – Training
• Updating Compass in line with our rule changes
This will mean:
• M1EX will be ‘ended’ and not added to new learners PLPs• Module 6 Changes in scouting will be ‘ended’, not added to new learners PLPs • Trustee Introduction ‘module’ will be added to Compass• M1 training requirements updated (learning and validation methods)• MOGL renewal timescale set to 3 years from last completed date• Safety & Safeguarding MOGL are stopped auto populating from completion of M1, M17 (Running
safe activities) and Safety for Managers and Supporters
Compass – Roles
• Updating Compass in line with our rule changes
This will mean:
Roles (as required) will have the Trustee Introduction ‘module’ added to their PLP Roles have M1 Essential Information set as a requirement in PLPs, where applicable Roles have Safety and Safeguarding set as a requirement in PLPs, where applicable Ensure ‘Full’ appointments aren’t made in Compass until Safety and Safeguarding training has
also now been completed
Compass – Adjustment period
• Applying a data fix to MOGL renewal dates for all existing members
• Adding, as a new record, a new MOGL based on ‘last completed’ dates.
Compass – Reports
• Updates, bug fixes and access to the Appointment reports
• Updates, bug fixes and access to the Training reports
Compliance Assistant Tools are also being updated in line with report and rule changes.
Compass – broader updates
• Aiming to ensure MOGL records are more obvious on training page
• Updating the welcome email to be clearer on training requirements and improved tone of voice
• Remove the default of ‘No’ populating in PLPs in the ‘Learning required’ column.
• Ability for end users to see ‘Notes’ added to MOGL records
• Notify members to complete training ahead of required timescales –first 5 months and every 3 years for MOGL
