I AM NOT AN ARCHITECT.What I am is a second year student currently attending University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture with the aspiration of one day becoming an architect (hopefully a good one too).

And this is what I’ve come up with so far.

A world class university located in Whistler, British Columbia that provides a second industry to the resort. The modern facilities is adaptive to the environment but also pays homage to the traditional Whistler style of architecture. The masterplan also includes a residential village, townhouses, an international school, and a research facility. The programming not only supports the local population and enhances its rich history but also creates a sustainable learning community.

Besides it’s staggering collection of architectural volumes, this downtown Toronto outpost for the Canadian Centre for Architecture is meant to be a future main attraction on the busy King Street area.

THE FIREFLY PAVILION 1B BUILDING CONSTRUCTION (ARCH 173) + VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS (ARCH 113) FINAL PROJECT - CONSULTING PROFESSOR: Terri Boake + Mark Cichy

In collaboration with: Katherine Holbrook-Smith

An urban venue located on the Waterfront area of Vancouver, British Columbia, the Firefly Pavilion is designed to be in harmony with its metropolitan environment. Not only does the pavilion house a night market that caters to small local businesses, but also acts as a playhouse for up and coming artists, musicians, or other street performers to showcase their talent. The life and energy generated by the venue is an addition to the already exceptionally colorful district of downtown Vancouver.

Winner of the Steel Structures Educational Fund’s Architectural Competition Award of Merit (placing 2nd in Canada).

UWSA STUDENT HALL2A DESIGN STUDIO (ARCH 292) FINAL PROJECT - CONSULTING PROFESSOR: Ryszard Sliwka

Located at the heart of Downtown Galt, the University of Waterloo School of Architecture’s Student Hall is designed to provide the relocated students with the desired “university residence experience”. The open nature of the building also allows the student hall to become an entity that is very well connected to Cambridge and integrated with life around it. Overall, the Waterloo Architecture Student Hall becomes an iconic institue that in turn allows it to embody the aspiration and values of UWSA as a centre for advancement in architecture.

ANTRUM LUXINDEPENDENT PROJECT: ENTRY FOR THE 2012 INTERNATIONAL VELUX AWARD

By proposing a mega atrium that unites the office building into a single volume, an attempt is made to maximize daylight penetration throughout the entire building and utilize light harvesting to completely eliminate artificial lighting. Investigation is made into how the design interacts between the environmental and the aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability of the project. Analysis is also made in regards to take into account urban density of site context, and shadow placements of surrounding buildings.

BRISBANE RURAL REST STOP 1B INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN (ARCH 125) FINAL PROJECT - CONSULTING PROFESSOR: Terri Boake

The Brisbane Rural Rest Stop, located in rural Brisbane, is an outpost for hikers and travelers to take shelter from the hot and humid climate of eastern Australia. With its vernacular design based upon indigenous Australian housing, the open plan draws inspiration from traditional breezeways and sleep-outs of the Australian outback.

FREIBURG MINSTER MODEL2A CULTURAL HISTORY (ARCH 192) PROJECT - CONSULTING PROFESSOR: Tammy Gaber

A reconstruction of the Freiburg Minster in Germany as part of the curriculum for Cultural History 3: the Foundation of Europe, the model serves as a detailed understanding of the construction, structure, acoustics, and lighting of Christian architecture in Europe.

An avid photographer with a particular interest in capturing the most honest of expressions, below is a collection of my work over the period of 2010-2011. Subjects vary from the streets of New York, to the blue waters of Vancouver, and finally to the street corners in rural Guatemala.
