Albert J. Dremel was the inventive genius who founded the Dremel Company back in 1932 . The company was, and partially still is located in Racine, Wisconsin, USA. Albert J. Dremel held a wide range of patents to his name, 55 in total. They included everything from electric razor blades to the first design of the now well known push-lawn mower. The first product coming from the Dremel Company was an electric razor blade sharpener.

A couple of years later, Albert J. Dremel came up with perhaps his greatest invention ever. The first multitool, based on high-speed rotary technology, called the Dremel Moto-Tool. Compact, lightweight and incredibly versatile, it was an instant success. Other inventions of Mr. Dremel include the electric shoe polisher, an electric screwdriver, a whole line of power sanders and scroll saws, an electric shoe scaler and even a device to keep automatic tabs on a chicken’s egg production.

Albert Dremel was as generous as he was inventive. In 1948 , he became famous across the United States for giving his employees 30% year-end profit sharing bonuses. Back then, profit sharing was a rather

radical idea. Next to this, Dremel found it a boss’s responsibility to give his workers a safe, comfortable work environment.

All in all, Albert J. Dremel was a resourceful and colourful inventor, and in many ways was ahead of his time. This still proves to be one of the most important characteristics of the Dremel brand today.

rOTAry TOOL HiNTs AND Tips

Using Mandrel 401:Screw accessory onto themandrel firmly.

Attaching an accessory to the tool using the collet and collet nut1. Your tool comes with a 3.2mm collet and

collet nut

2. Now determine the accessory shank size

3. Select a collet to fit the shank diameter of the accessory

4. Depress shaft lock button

5. Loosen and remove collet nut

6. Insert properly sized collet

7. Replace but do not tighten collet nut

8. Insert shank of accessory

9. Tighten collet nut

Using Mandrel 402*:Loosen screw, replace accessory, tighten screw. Do not overtighten.

Changing sand band of a sanding drum*:Loosen screw, pull old band off the rubber bushing,replace with new band, tighten screw.

*Hint: For loosening the tightening screws use the bottom of the Rotary Tool Change Wrench

1. Accessory shankThe part of the Dremel® accessory that is inserted into the tool. Most of the Dremel® accessory shank sizes are 3.2mm. Other sizes include 2.4mm, 1.6mm and 0.8mm.

4. MultiChuckAllows users to change accessories without the use of any collet in the tool. Works with the Dremel® corded and cordless high speed rotary tools, and all attachments except the router, cutting guide, grout removal, chainsaw sharpening and lawnmower sharpening attachments.

5. shaftThe rotating part of the Dremel® rotary tool where the collet is inserted. The shaft is threaded for attaching the collet nut or the MultiChuck.

2. Collet NutTightening the collet nut forces the collet’s fingers inward, securing accessories for use.Avoid excessive tightening.

3. ColletThe most precise way to hold an accessory in a high speed rotary tool. Even at high speeds and maximum pressure, collets stay tight. The collet is located underneath the collet nut inside the tool’s shaft.
