PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Page 3 Volume 29, Issue 12

Hello everyone, welcome to the December and January newsletter.

It is with a very heavy heart to report that Phillip Houlahan passed away on the

10th December. An enthusiastic and active member, Phillip first joined TDMG

in 2007 and became Treasurer in 2013, a post he held until March 2019. He was

a dear friend to us all and I know that I speak for everyone; you will be missed

very much. Our love goes out to Janet and family at this difficult time.

Only two events since our last meeting. The bypass run to Westbrook Tavern

with the Qld Club and our own Christmas Party which I hear was very well at-

tended.

Barb and I of course are in Europe with our son and daughter in law, Amy. Having an absolute fantastic time.

We started off in London, doing the usual tourist things, but the best tour was the rock n roll tour and getting

the picture of us four on Abbey Rd. Well it had to be done! Then it was off to the Cotswolds, Stonehenge and

Bath. The most unexpected day out was at Market Lavington where my family history starts. To stand in a

church where two of my great grandparents were married in 1820 was something quite special.

We also had a wonderful time touring the Cotswold Motoring Museum & Toy Collection. An interesting mix

of cars including a lovely red Morry Tourer. A perfect photo opportunity if ever there was one! As I write

this, we are on the move from Scotland to Paris to see the sights this beautiful city has on offer and then it’s on

to Germany.

We don’t have any runs scheduled between our December and January meetings, in fact the first run we have is

Jim’s mystery run on Sunday 19th January. I

might also take a moment here to

remind everyone that there won’t be

a newsletter published in January. We

still do have a January meeting howev-

er, this is on the 16th.

Well that's all from me, your fearless

leader. From the Continent, wishing

everybody a very happy and enjoyable

silly season.

SECRETARY/EDITOR NOTES

Well here we are at the end of another year and into what appears to be a very hot summer in store for us

in South East Queensland. Already my car is suffering badly with the fuel pump experiencing fuel vapourisa-

tion on particularly hot days and a change of pump has not solved the problem. Will just have to avoid the

longer runs in this heat wave and take one of my Triumphs or the (airconditioned) Landcruiser instead.

To add to my Morry woes, the generator threw the towel in last week, disintegrating internally and is now

only scrap metal. Denis Smith came to my rescue with a spare he had, though later I found a spare of my

own in my boxes of bits and the car is once again on the road.

Like everybody, it was very sad to learn of the passing of our member Phillip Houlahan last week. I’m certain

members will join me in wishing Janet our love and support. Thank you to Denis Smith for writing a very

fitting piece in remembrance of Phillip.

Roy

That is it, 2019 is all done! Thank you to everyone who contributed to our little mag over the year. Keep

the photos and stories coming.

As Brian mentioned, I am having a break from newsletter duties until the February edition. A reminder how-

ever that January’s meeting will be held same time, same place on the 16th.

Everybody have an enjoyable holiday season and stay safe. Happymorrying….Greg

We lost a great mate today! His name…..Phillip Houlahan.

Phillip was a person that every club would love to have, and we were so lucky to have him with us. He,

along with wife Janet, were dependable regulars at club meetings, outings, runs and on many occasions

planned and organised such runs.

When the club had been looking for someone to fill the Treasurer position, Phillip, being Phillip, raised his

hand. He held that position from 2013 until he resigned due to illness in 2019. He was concerned that the

club would suffer if he continued in the position.

He had very good mechanical knowledge and had many projects on the go, confirmation of this was all the

good “stuff” that was in his shed. When asked what the latest project was his answer was “Haven’t decided

yet”. Loved his shed because it had a hoist and was sooo easy to work on the Morrie. If you had a problem

or needed help you could always rely on Phil to help you out.

Phil worked on the railways for many years, working outside in all weather conditions and with very little

protection from the elements, and this was to affect his health in later years. If you asked him; how are

you? He would just say “I’m pretty good”.

Well old mate, we reckon you were, Pretty Good. It’s time to say, goodbye, we who had the privilege to

know you and are saddened by your passing. Guess you have already started work on “God’s” Morrie to

bring it up to scratch, yeah I know the wheels have been changed, the heater fixed and the modified head

has been updated. So Phil take the wheel and take it for a thrash, we want hear the revs from here.
