Top Cop A Delmar man is first on the
eligibility list for appointment as a member of the Albany Police Department, it was announced recently by the Albany Municipal Civil Service Commission.
J aIIies H. Brady, 42 Hudson Avenue, Delmar, tops the list of 23 who passed the examination given March 31. Of the 29 who took the test, six failed to attain a passing grade.

To the Spotlight Editor: The columns of the Spotlight
are an appropriate and effective place for the Bethlehem Babe Ruth League to express its appreciation for the support and special assistance that has been given this year. The League directors obviously feel that Babe Ruth baseball offers a significantly important and valuable service both to the many boys who play and also to our commuriity, and so we're particularly gratified by others' contributions.
We want to advertise the excellent cooperation of the boys who played on League teams in the recent Booster Drive and the generous contributions of our townspeople. The Booster Drive proceeds will finance almost a third of this summer's League expenses. In addition, we've had fine cooperation from Martin J. Cross, Jr., Town Superintendent of Highways, in erecting the snow fence at the Junior High field, and from Gerald J. Day, Chief of the Delmar Fire. Department, in solving a flagpole problem. Our thanks to all!
I'd also want to take this chance to encourage everyone interested in youth or sports to attend the games each evening except Sunday at six o'clock at the Junior High School. The boys play high quality, evenly matched, well-coached baseball that provides spirited, interesting entertaining for adults and children. The spectators can also improve the game because the players, naturally enough, have greater zest and interest in performing in front of parents and friends. Come and join us.
Sincerely yours, James R. Spence Acting Preside~t Bethlehem Babe Ruth

Thanks to John Anderson of Cleveland, Ohio, we are happy to report that entomologists haven't agreed on how many varieties of insects inhabit the world. They think they total two million, but about 6,000 new species are being discovered each year. (Is it pos· sible that at least half of them

Aphids are one of the most numerous and destructive of all insects. In a test, FOUR TONS were gathered from a single acre of alfalfa. Someone has estimated that the progeny from a single pair of aphids, if all survived, would total 1,560 septillion (1, 560, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000, . 000,000,000) in a single season. Anyone who doubts this figure can make his own check. All he has to do is count the .aphids in one square mile and multiply by the area of grass and croplands that harbor these pests. It's just. a matter of simple arithmetic, you see!
