Top Dogs! That long awaited day in September finally arrived last weekend and WOW, what a
weekend it was.........the only thing that could have been better would have been the
weather but I’m guessing no one really cares about that now! The U/18’s started our
day off with a repeat of last years Grand Final. The howling wind made conditions
difficult and scoring nearly impossible, we really struggled to hit targets and the game
hung in the balance to the very end. Fortunately when the final siren sounded we were 3
points up and more than happy to accept the winning trophy in the driving rain! The
Reserves game was also a very tight knit affair. Two early injuries to a couple of
important players sent shock waves through the camp but to the teams credit they never
put their heads down and went on to take the win by 9 points, ending Bridgewater’s
quest to win 4 in a row!

It would be great to see some of the community
dress up as a farmer & come in to help us help
farmers!
Happy Anniversary
It was ninety-one when we met and ninety-three when we wed
Lots of water under the bridge now with not many moments we’ve dread.
Some moments in hospitals, some with joy and few with pain
Both sharing the times, with support from each other through joy and the strain.
It’s twenty-five years we’re celebrating, so there’s more than a line for each year
No need to cringe or to worry as you’ve really nothing to fear.
The stories and memories are all positive and filled with fun
The other ones you’ll not read here, ‘cause really there’s none,
What you see is what you get as you still love a laugh and share a good joke
But further afield do you search for material as you’re now a ‘technological’ bloke.
The Weekly Times and the Joke book are no longer the prevalent source
As ‘Bookface’ is what you open each morning as your routinely daily course.
Twenty-five years has certainly flown and our future continues to look fine
You make allowances now with indigestion tablets for where we may dine.
You take more gambles with jobs and with the odd taste of food
Garlic, onion, spicy and smelly are all cuisines which continue to alter your mood.
Your attire really has not altered much, particularly in the heat of the sun
Give you shorts, the singlet, the thongs and the high temps for your idea of fun.
You tell it how it is – it’s black or it’s white, it’s straight down the line
No need to worry or stress, as always with you, it will work out just fine.
Home is still where the heart is, in your own surrounds with your things close by
Clear heat, the higher the temperature the better, overhead a clear blue sky.
Still a big kid at heart with tidiness and organisation not one of your skills
Whilst Holden, V8’s and good clean fun provide some of your thrills.
Happy anniversary to us as we move on to the next phase
More memories to make and share in a variety of ways.
‘To the moon and back’ is an old line that will not be the measure to use
As it’s time not distance that is the measurement as we continue to cruise.
It’s the stories, the history and the fun that we have and continue to share
That are the true measure of our love, our friendship and how much we care.
Neither is perfect, we’ve got a few faults and yes, the odd flaw
The journey continues with love and each other, and of that I’m sure.
Happy anniversary!

Social Justice Immersion Experience
Sarah Vevers from St. Patrick's Primary School, Pyramid Hill will be travelling to
Cebu, Philippines with 14 other teachers & 2 leading staff from the Sandhurst Diocese
as part of a Social Justice Immersion Experience. Participants depart on Wednesday
the 19th of September & return to Australia in the middle weekend of the school
holidays.
Before the teachers depart on their trip, they commit to fundraising which will support
the families & children in Cebu that are in need.
On Tuesday the 4th of September, St. Patrick's Primary School hosted a Cebu fundrais-
ing night at the Memorial Hall, which included Ventriloquist entertainment, Learners
Art exhibition, a silent auction, raffle & a two course meal of Filipino style cuisine.
Local businesses generously donated goods & services raising a total of $1426.00. This
incredible amount will certainly make a difference in the lives of so many. Thank you.
I will be very proud to deliver these funds in person.
In Cebu, the group will meet families & children, spend time with children of different
schools, participate in activities that will expose them to the living conditions &
educational facilities that are available, as well as visit the local market & orphanage.
The money that has been raised will be either donated or used to buy supplies for those
in need.
Thank you to all that have supported or donated towards the cause. Your generosity is
certainly appreciated.
Thank you.

Sylvaterre Spring The wind it is blowing, Cypress Pines to-and-
froing, raised dust with each passing car. The
grass for a moment is green the sheep almost
clean and Canola glows yellow from afar
The wrens have started nesting, fly's and
mozzies started pesting and the wagtails are
whistling their claims. Native plants are in
flower I could search for an hour, but still
couldn't speak all their names
As the sun sets south of 'the hill' Honey-eaters

their delta shaped wings. And then just after

foxes come to destroy all these things.

Support For Farmers
Agriculture Victoria is reminding Victorian farmers of the info &
support available to assist them in managing dry seasonal condi-
tions which are being experienced across much of the state. The
Department is hosting workshops across the state, with one in
Wedderburn on the 20th of Sept for farm water & seasonal condi-
tions planning, & in Charlton on the 26th of Sept focussing on
decision making for dry seasonal conditions (separate sessions for
cropping & livestock).
The Victorian Government recognises that the coming weeks are
critical for farmers & that rainfall is needed for crop & pasture
growth & to replenish dams coming into spring. It is encouraging
farmers to access the info that is available, develop a plan for the
possible scenarios & make timely decisions relevant to their own
circumstances. Agriculture Victoria & industry groups are available
to assist farmers interpret info to make informed decisions. Agricul-
ture Victoria also provides regular updates on seasonal conditions
& outlooks, including the Very Fast Break updates.
Online resources are available on the Agriculture Victoria website
including the Drought Feeding & Management of Sheep & Cattle
Guides & farmer case studies. The farm water calculator can also
be found at www.agriculture.vic.gov.au/farmwater.
The Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS) is available to
assist farmers experiencing or at risk of financial stress. They offer
free, independent & confidential assistance to farmers, including
help to access financial assistance.
Available financial assistance includes the Farm Household
Allowance & Commonwealth concessional loans. Farmers should

We need to make sure our honking is encouraging. In groups where there is encouragement, production is much greater. Individual empow-erment results from quality honking.

Motor Gymkhana.
The motor gymkhana held in the recreation reserve to augment the Church of
England building fund proved a novelty event in the district and attracted a
large attendance. Motordom was present in all its varieties from sad-eyed
belles of other days to flippant, high-kicking jazz babies of the modern day
and sedate streamlined chaperones with a deeper purr of slumbering power.
The procession was well made up and created a good deal of interest and
provided plenty of scope for car decorators.
Mr R Stone's "White Swan" was a finely got up piece of work and annexed
the first prize. All those who participated in the procession took great pains
to make their decorations attractive and they all achieved a splendid result.
Those who took part were, Mr H Manley, "Venetian Gondola, Mr W Town-
send, "Battleship", Mr B Thomas represented Hawaii and with a number of
schoolgirls easily captured the prize offering for a car load of pretty girls, by
polling 361 votes to 78, 77 and 57 each by the other three competitors. Mr T
Moore, "The Rapid" speedster. Rev. Clinch, Messrs F Bramley and G
Manley went in for floral decorations.
Three entrants for the honour of possessing the "most dilapidated car"
provided amusing speculation and Mr C Vallance took first in a gallant relic
of the early Elizabethan period while close behind was Mr F Perkins with a
1914 replica of Henry VIII's days and last but not least—in noise— came Mr
D Bartels in a "Dodge'' which seemed to feature a hit and miss ignition and a
firing system from 1 up to 4 and back again. The events put through drew big
entries and entertained in a novel way. The musical chair provided the most
excitement. The affair was conducted by a large number of stewards secretar-
ied by Mr S Lewis. The ladies provided afternoon tea on the ground and both
that and a sweets stall were well patronised.
The success of this initial effort should act as a stimulus to similar gatherings
in the future. The results were. Bending race, Mr A Smith. Potato race Mr A
Smith. Musical chairs, Miss G Chant. Motor cycle race, Mr R Hodges.

WHAT IS COMING.
SOG Notes
Railway Dept. wrote that the crossing in Pyramid Hill would be widened 20ft
on the north side if the council paid the estimated cost of £32, or more or less
as might be the case. The commissioners could not agree to the council's
proposal to pay half. As the presence of the “cop” on the western side of the
crossing made an awkward turn for motorist, which in turn endangered
pedestrians. It was decided to remove it and apply to the dept. for a pedestri-
an crossing.
November 30 1928
Railway Dept. wrote that it considered that the traffic button (Cop) on the
west side of the railway crossing at Pyramid Hill created the danger to
pedestrians crossing the line. The crossing would be widened if the council
paid the cost. After another discussion upon the cops and the crossing it was
resolved to remove the one on the west side and ask the police to enforce
observance of that on the east.

A Note From Joan
Well I have made it back from THE FORUM in Yandina after spending a pleasant week with my
sister, walking the dogs on Coolum beach, and
along the extensive length of sporting grounds and
facilities in Yandina, and also did the tourist trip
round the Buderim Ginger Factory (which is in
Yandina, oddly enough). I didn’t take a ride on
the steam train, so will have to go back again!
When you walk with
a “wobbly boot”, as I
do you don’t seem to
have a spare hand to
snap photos when
you see possibilities,
so most of the photos
were left right there
and hopefully stay in
my mind. Cheers J.

Pyramid Hill Lawn Bowling Club News
60 & Over
The guys were back on the greens & relishing the beautiful sunshine last Thursday as they
made their way to Barham Sports with a complete set of four bowlers. Bill, Graham M., &
Allan were joined by Ray to combine as an “awesome foursome.” They were certainly
pleased to be a foursome & are determined to work on their awesome. Once again they
found the greens to be pretty slippery and it took a while for them to acclimatize to the
pace. They managed to win one game out of their three, which is better than none out of
three & again they experimented with different Skips at the helm. After a lapse of just
three days, the informant couldn’t quite recall who all had a turn of being Skip or who the
successful Skip was which makes it a bit difficult for the reporter to pad out a good story if
the guys who played can’t actually remember what happened! So in place of a chicken
joke this week there is just a bit of kindly advice: take a note pad & write down anything
reportable…please!!!
Bowls Practice
All players are reminded that practice takes place on a Tuesday night each week starting
at 4:30pm. The Pennant Season commences on Wednesday October the 3rd for Mid-week
bowlers & Saturday the 6th of October for the weekend brigade. Please make an effort to
get in some solid practice.
Come and Try Day
A get-together of players & friends is planned for Saturday the
22nd of September. All members are invited to bring along a
friend & together we can enjoy having a few rolls in the form of
a friendly match. Starting time is 12:30pm Casual dress. A
Sausage Sizzle bbq will follow. An early finish is planned to
enable AFL fans the opportunity to catch most of the finals
match. Everyone welcome.
Subs
A reminder that subs are now due. Please try & catch up with Lionel in the next few weeks
with your subscription money.
Working Bee
There are quite a few jobs that need to be attended to prior
to the start of Pennant in order to get our venue looking
spick & span. The proposed Working Bee is to be held on
Saturday the 29th of September with an 8:30am start. With
the willingness of a large group of people we can get the
jobs knocked over in time for everyone to get back home
for the AFL Grand Final. Please be prepared to spare an hour or two to help out.
Northern District Bowls Division Booklets
The Little Blue Book which outlines Pennant Dates, Division Events & rules are now
available from the Club House for Members.
Congratulations Here, There & Everywhere
The PHBC sends hearty congratulations to the Under 18s & the Seconds footy teams for
their Premiership successes. Both teams survived the challenges by their strong opponents
& the elements. It was certainly not ideal weather conditions but the squalls of wind
certainly blew in our favour at times.
Mighty congratulations are also extended to Kate Bartels & Grant Mooney for their
amazing golf awards. Both Kate & Grant were winners of the Northern District Champion-
ships and then went on to become Champion of Champions. Will we see them on the PGA
Tours??
The Northern District Bowls Division can proudly boast two players who were members
of the National Bowlers Arm Side Championships played at Maitland over four days. Ron
Eckhart & Rod (Bluey) Fletcher are National Champions – bring on the Olympics!
What a conglomerate of Champions in our area! Well done, all!!

Remember, Respect, Rejoice
The Date has been decided!!
The book Remember, Respect, Rejoice 1939-1945 will be launched on Sunday the 14th of October 2018. So please keep this
day free & put it in your diary. Go tell it on the mountains, over the hills & everywhere.
The book has been written and researched by Adam Elliott, a Pyramid Hill resident who has been working in the Pacific Islands &
this book was his occupational therapy. Adam was out where the action had been during those years, he had an interest in war
history & also an uncle who lived in Pyramid Hill & served that gave him the inspiration. Adam was armed with a CD of the
Pyramid Hill Advertiser & a computer. Many years later we have it all together
This manuscript has passed through many hands who have added or subtracted to it. At present it is in the hands of our secretary,
Helen Stevens. It is nearly ready to go to the printers. Our thanks to all who have contributed photos & extra stories, and Sharyn
Glen (Melb) who has roots in Pyramid Hill & Mologa for her help. As many names & addresses are unknown, please help us by
spreading the news! Margaret Williamson, P R Pyramid & District Historical Society Inc.
