10 Top Tips For Your LinkedIn Profile With 15 million LinkedIn users in the UK alone, LinkedIn is the leading social
media network for professionals. Whether you’re new to LinkedIn or just want to
ensure you’re positioning yourself effectively read our 10 top tips for your profile.
1. The first step is to turn off your profile updates – this will enable you to unveil your new professional and hard working profile when you’re ready!
Before changing your profile, go to your Privacy & Settings (under your picture, top right corner) after logging in and choose “Turn on/off your broadcasts”. Un-tick the box and save.
Why? Because otherwise you’ll inform everyone in your network each time you make a change, so just wait until you’re happy with your new all star profile.
Remember to tick it again once your profile is ready!
2. Picture
Don’t be shy! More than 90% of LinkedIn’s members will only click on profiles with a picture so you really need a photo on your profile. A head and shoulders shot is a safe bet.

3. Name
If you use a more familiar version of your name such as Chris instead of Christopher, then make sure you include this so people can find you.
An example might be Annabel (Annie) Someone.
4. Professional headline
This is probably the most important part of your Profile. Why? This part is shown with your name and picture in almost any activity on LinkedIn (e.g. search results) so make sure it sums you up well.
Add a personal detail to get extra attention.
5. Summary
This is an ideal opportunity to describe the company you work for, and your role within the company. Always write in the first person. So for example it might read:

Our services include Closed Loop paper recycling, secure document destruction and records management. We manage the entire document lifecycle for leading organisations. Add rich text media to really enhance your profile. You can easily add video, presentations and PDFs – these really help add that extra edge to your profile.
7. Experience
Add all your previous experience and don’t forget to describe your role(s) and responsibilities. Remember tangible results are key! Make sure you verify the dates and titles too.
8. Skills and Expertise
Don’t forget to highlight your key skills and expertise! Add enough detail to really convey a sense of who you are.
9. Education
Add your university, college or high school here. And are there any extra curricular activities that really highlight your abilities or personality?
10. Sections
LinkedIn offers you a range of extra sections to add to your profile. You can add extra zing to your profile with your Languages, Volunteer Experiences and Causes, Projects, and more. Remember that every word on your profile is searchable.
