GENERAL INFORMATION RELATING TO ASSESSMENT

The Cebu Normal University Student related policies and procedures manual describes the

University policy and procedures relating to assessment. The Cebu Normal University‟s

policy on assessment allows students to negotiate possible changes to assessment details.

Should you believe that you are disadvantaged with respect to the assessment methods for this

topic you should, in the first instance, contact the Topic coordinator.

Assessment grades

Students should refer to the Cebu Normal University Student related policies and procedures

manual for detailed information on grading etc.

Policy on submission of late assignments

We have based the policy on a balance between issues of equity and recognition of the fact

that many students have heavy workloads and need flexibility in their study programs.

Assignments are to be submitted by the day indicated on the Statement of assessment methods

forms for internal students and in the “Assessment summary” in the Topic information for

external students.

Due date

The due date refers to the last day of submission of an assignment and is given to students

when they receive details of the assignment.

Submission of assignments

Assignments must either be received in the College of Nursing on or before the due date or be

postmarked on or before the due date.

Penalties

When assignments are not submitted by the due date and/or where a request for an extension

is not received by the due date, at the discretion of the Topic coordinator, a penalty of 2% per

calendar day may apply.

Page 18: Topic Information

18

Extensions

Under extenuating circumstances, extensions may be granted, normally for not longer than

fourteen calendar days. Students requiring extensions should contact either the Topic

coordinator or the Administrative Officer (Academic) before the due date of the assignment.

Request for extensions for seven or more calendar days will only be considered when

accompanied by a medical certificate and/or other appropriate documentations that explain in

full detailed reasons why request is made and includes a clear indication of when the

assignment will be delivered.

Feedback to students on written work prior to submission of an assignment

In ordinary circumstances, staff will not accept draft versions of assignments for marking.

Where individual students receive such feedback prior to submission of an assignment for

marking, it can be seen to privilege those students above their fellows. It is recognized that

the request for such feedback often stems from a student‟s desire to produce high quality

work. Students may discuss and clarify the assignment question and requirements with their

tutor. However, in order to ensure all students are treated equally in terms of assessment,

draft work will not be accepted by staff.

Topic specific submission policy

Topic coordinators will advise students of additional (topic specific) assessment and

submission information and/or requirements. This advice must include:

Assessment criteria

Students must be advised of criteria to be met in order to satisfy topic requirements (for

example, 50% overall, complete and satisfy in all assignment etc.).
