Hey everyone! I’m absolutely eager to interview Tori Kravitz founder and reporter from Rock Forever Magazine. Tori is responsible for providing fans with 300+ interviews with bands of all types of backgrounds, creating her own business, producing her own content on her Youtube channel for her 35k followers, and being one of the lucky people who are selected to be Pit Reporters during the Vans Warped Tour. Tori and I will discuss music, getting into the entertainment industry and how to be a young entrepreneur, hope you enjoy! (Kristal Solis) Tori, I discovered your channel through Bryan Stars’ interviews . I was watching one of his interviews and on the side your channel kept popping up and I discovered your interviews and I really enjoyed the content you were producing. How did you first begin to interview bands? Did you start off interviewing local bands and worked your way up towards interviewing bigger bands? (Tori Kravitz):I have been passionate about promoting bands since I was in middle school and I always used to share new artists with my friends. In 2010, when I was 14, I decided that I wanted to build my own website and reach a larger audience to share my favorite music with. That’s how Rock Forever Magazine first started. As I gained content for the website, I fell in love with doing interviews so I focused on expanding the RFM YouTube channel. In the beginning, I requested interviews with a wide range of artists. Some of them were local, but I also attempted to interview artists like Justin Bieber (which obviously didn’t work out). I have big goals and the only way https://youtu.be/uPboPGB4vok

(Kristal Solis) Tori, I discovered your channel through Bryan Stars interviews. I was watching one of his interviews and on the side your channel kept popping up and I discovered your interviews and I really enjoyed the content you were producing. How did you first begin to interview bands? Did you start off interviewing local bands and worked your way up towards interviewing bigger bands?(Tori Kravitz):I have been passionate about promoting bands since I was in middle school and I always used to share new artists with my friends. In 2010, when I was 14, I decided that I wanted to

build my own website and reach a larger audience to share my favorite music with. Thats how Rock Forever Magazine first started. As I gained content for the website, I fell in love with doing interviews so I focused on expanding the RFM YouTube channel.

In the beginning, I requested interviews with a wide range of artists. Some of them were local, but I also attempted to interview artists like Justin Bieber (which obviously didnt work out). I have big goals and the only way

  • to achieve those goals is to try. I always reached out to big artists, and even if they declined my request, I didnt give up. Eventually I landed interviews with Ariana Grande, Imagine Dragons, and Never Shout Never. As I proved myself, more interview opportunities presented themselves.

KS:How and when did you start Rock Forever Magazine?TK:I started Rock Forever Magazine in August 2010 and I did pretty much everything myself (and I still do). I didnt have a strategy when I started the website, I just learned and evolved as I progressed.

KS:On May 6th you announced that you were chosen to be the Warped Tour Pit Reporter this summer, what was your initial reaction to obtaining this opportunity and how are you mentally, physically preparing to go on this tour?TK:When I got the call that I got the job, I cried. A lot. This has been my dream

since the first time I went to Warped Tour so its really surreal. Its a huge

opportunity and I am honored to be a part of the tour. I am extremely passionate about Warped Tour and Im excited to share that with everyone!

Since I have never been on tour before, its difficult to mentally and physically prepare because I dont know what to expect. Ive been talking to my friends who have played Warped Tour before and Im asking them for advice. Im also mapping out my schedules and making a lot of checklists in advance. Organization is key!

    (L) Tori(R)Kellin Quinn (Vocalist:Sleeping with Sirens)

  • KS: In 2012, you were already interviewing musicians/bands ,were you on the ENTIRE Warped Tour or were you only there for a few dates? TK:I only attended a few dates in 2012. This will be my first year on the entire tour.

KS: How do you prepare for an interview? TK: I start by writing the interview questions and doing research. I watch previous interviews with the artist and I read as many articles as I can. I like to get to know them as much as possible beforehand. I also memorize my questions in advance so I dont have to worry about reading my notes during the interview.

KS: What do you do if you are incredibly nervous to interview someone or if you are in a environment where people theres too much background noise interrupting you?TK:Before the interview, I set aside a minute to relax and take deep breaths. Being present is the key to doing a good interview. That way, I can focus on the person Im interviewing and thats it. Ultimately, its not the interview thats nerve-wracking; its the pressure you put on yourself to perform. The artists are normal people; if you approach it like a typical conversation, theres nothing to be nervous about!

KS: Youre currently in college but were your parents supportive of you starting Forever Rock Magazine.com, traveling constantly to shows to interviews bands, and eventually landing a real job at Warped Tour? How do you manage school and doing interviews? TK: Yes, my family has always been very supportive of me. In fact, sometimes my mom films the interviews! They see how much I love my job so theyre cool with it. Balancing school and interviews has been my biggest challenge. Im a full-time college student so sometimes I feel like Im living a double life. I sit in class and do homework in the morning, and attend concerts and interview bands at night. I keep myself on a tight schedule and I try to manage my time wisely. Running a YouTube channel is 24/7 job!

  • KS: Whats your advice for young people who want to get involved with interviewing and doing background work for musicians/bands?TK:Go for it! If you want to do interviews, start a blog right now. Interview local bands and network at shows in your area. If you are 100% committed to working in the industry, you can be successful. In the beginning, a lot of people will ignore your emails and it wont be easy. If you can push past those obstacles and prove your credibility, you can build professional relationships and achieve great things. Stay motivated and inspired!

KS: Do you recommend any specific gear (camera, laptop, microphone) for anyone who is a beginner and wants to start doing interviews as professional as possible?TK: I dont think super fancy equipment is necessary. I use a Canon S100 for a lot of my videos (thats the camera Im bringing on Warped Tour for the Pit Blog videos) and I edit with Premiere Pro (but iMovie is awesome too). Its not about the gear you have; its how you use it.

KS: Five years from now where do you see yourself and your company Rock Forever Magazine?TK: I would love to continue working for Warped Tour. I also plan on continuing Rock Forever Magazine and well see where this venture takes me next. In the next five years, I want to continue introducing new artists to my audience and building the channel.
