• HD video – users can experience resolutions up to HD 1080P in two-party calls and multiparty conferences.
• Gallery View – in video conferences that have more than two people, users can see videos of participants in the conference. If the conference has more than five participants, video of only the most active participants appear in the top row, and a photo appears for the other participants.
• H.264 video – the H.264 video codec is now the default for encoding video on Lync 2013 Preview clients. H.264 video supports a greater range of resolutions and frame rates, and improves video scalability.

What’s new: HA Model
• Front-End servers manage user state• Front-End server keeps synchronous backup copies of their data on 3 other
FE server• Front-end servers and Back end databases are loosely coupled• Lazy writes to the database for rehydration and disaster recovery • Lync users automatically mapped to “Groups”• Each “Group” is dynamically assigned to 3 FE servers in a pool• When a users logs in, the Primary server will start servicing all users'
requests• Changes to the user’s data will be synchronously replicated to
secondary/tertiary as well• If primary server dies, then group would fail over to secondary (no data
loss)• Writes to back-end occur periodically• When a server dies, all the “Groups ” assigned to that server will failover
to different servers (load balancing)
