Have an Objective

1) Objectives give you keywords you need on yourresume if you want it to be found in a databasesearch. When a recruiter or the company’s HRdepartment searches for resumes to consider for acertain position, you want the search words they’llbe using to appear on your resume, so it will pop upin that search. The objective might be the onlyplace you can do that.

Have an Objective

2) You need it to stand in place of your cover letter. Now, you always want to write a good cover letter, and we talked about that last week, but you alsohave to understand that it might be totally ignored.Recruiters and hiring managers are typically verybusy, and won’t always take the time to read acover letter. Your objective is insurance.

Quantify YourAccomplishments

“The majority of achievements on your resume should betranslated into numbers, dollars, or percentages. Numbers getattention, they speak to managers, and they’re hard evidence

that you can back up what you say you can do.”

Think about it: which sounds better:

“I’m a top-ranked salesperson,” or “I ranked #2 out of 15on XYZ sales team.”

“Consistently accurate,” or “99% accurate”

“Responsible for ABC“ or “increased productivity by 30%”

Quantify YourAccomplishments

Think about how you contributed to generating revenue, ordrove any kind of growth: customer increases, units produced

or sold, accuracy ratings, budget figures, improved productivity, rankings, improved customer service numbers and so on.

Your job has to relate to the bottom-line of the company, andyou need to be able to communicate that in your resume.

Figure out how you have made money for that company, andshow that through numbers, dollars or percentages. You need

to show the value you can bring to an organization.

No Longer Than Two Pages

• Why 2 pages?• Marketing brochure• Entice them to call you• Think about commercials or ads• You are the product

• Why not 3 pages?• Advertises your age• Don’t care or understand about

the standard• Concentrate on the last

10-15 years

and accomplishments.
