ENCOURAGING ALL IN THE AIM TO BETTER OUR BEST EXCELLENCE RESPECT RESPONSIBILITY Tottenham Central School Principal: Amanda Thorpe Week 1 Term 3 Thursday, 23 July 2020 Principals message Staffing Welcome to Mrs Viv Cleaver. Viv Cleaver is a Youth Worker appointed to our school under the school chaplaincy program to provide support within our school community. Viv has a wealth of experience, skills and ideas. We consider ourselves very lucky to have Viv on our team. You can read more about Vivs role and how she can assist you inside this newsletter. Unfortunately, so far staffing has been unsuccessful in filling our TAS position, but they are continuing to work hard to do so. Welcome to Mr Reuben Rundle who will be looking after our TAS role three days a week. We are extremely lucky to find Mr Rundle as TAS teachers are rare as hens teeth”. Mrs Radford will pick up the other classes Miss Elwin used to take. Shade Shelters Our new playground shade shelters were erected over the holidays and we love them. The photos just dont do them justice! New seating is on the way too which will finish these areas off beautifully. We wish we could invite you in to see them, but under the current health protocols we cant. Cooler Classrooms Our cooler classrooms upgrade is nearing completion. The new units are very powerful and efficient. Lights come on to indicate we should open windows, when the CO2 is too high, and when outside conditions are favourable enough to turn the units off and save power. Having tradies in town for such a long period has also been great for the local economy. COVID-19 Guidelines On Monday, I sent home an email to all families outlining the current guidelines. There are still strict protocols in place. We will continue with our handwashing, enhanced cleaning and infection control procedures. Parents and caregivers are requested to not enter the school grounds unless it is via the front office. We also request that you keep your child home if unwell. Education Week 2020 Week 3 is Education Week. Usually, we would be encouraging a full houseof visitors, but this year has to be different. Staff and the SRC have put their heads together to come up with some fun ideas for the week. We are going to start the week in great style with a PJ Dayand hot dog lunch. During the week we will also be having an old-school sports daywith activities such as egg and spoon races, captain ball, march past etc. Secondary will be involved in a Literacy and Numeracy workshop and we will stream some of our music lessons. This year, the theme is 'Learning together'. In this year of bushfires, floods and COVID-19, the key messages of Education Week 2020 are: Schools are the cornerstone of communities Parents and carers are our partners in learning. Schools and families benefit from strong, respectful relationships where responsibility for student learning is shared Change and resilience Our teachers and students are lifelong learners, collaborating in a positive learning environment to achieve their best. Learning together makes us strong and creates resilient communities. Connect better and learn together Our school staff are dedicated professionals who know, value and care for all students. Technology enables learning together anywhere, any time. Amanda Thorpe, Principal
