You can find Lake Velence with its vel-vet-like, shallow water in the heart of Hungary, 50 kms from Budapest and 46 kms from Lake Balaton in amazing natu-ral surroundings at the foot of Velence Hill. Thanks to the motorway M7, you can get to Lake Velence quicker, than on a busy day from Pest to Buda. But this is not the only reason why it is a good idea to choose this destination: the region offer a lot to discover for those seek-ing high-quality active and nature- close recre-ation. The landscape rich in natural treasures is abundant with cultural sights nourishing the mind and soul. The region of Lake Velence is the ultimate par-adise for hikers: it can be comfortably toured by bike, on foot or horseback. Visitors do not have to worry about great level differences or distances to be overcome. Tours can be varied with bathing, ship excursions, birdwatching, degustation of local products, visiting interac-tive exhibitions and several other programmes offering true and unique experience.
This publication has been edited by the Tour-istic Destination Management Organisation (TDM) of the tourism service providers at Lake Velence. We would like to introduce the dynamically developing touristic offers of the region to our guests, this way helping to make the best plan to spend valuable time in our re-gion.
LAKE VELENCE, THE PLACE WE ARRIVE AT

We can ride around the lake on newly built bike tracks or bike-friendly tracks during this tour. We join in the bike track going on the southern shore of the lake at the Gárdony railway station and we head towards Agárd on the Holdfény (Moon-light) esplanade where we can ride mostly right next to the lake. Near Dinnyés the bike track ar-rives near highway 7. From the South-Western end of the lake to Pákozd we continue our way on an unfrequented road, and then we pass the two regulating canals of the lake. First the Kajtori canal, then the Császár (Kaiser) canal. After the latter we can find the Lake Velence Bird Res-ervation Area riding on a ballast-road. To reach Pákozd we ride over Motorway 7 and overcoming a short ascendant we get to the village. We turn right to continue our tour on the bike track. In Pákozd two rest service areas are available for bikers.
CLASSICAL LAKE VELENCE ROUND TOUR

At the second one, more active bikers can ride up to the Wobbling Rocks ( I n g ó k ö v e k ) of Pákozd, the mountain bike track here is as-signed by a blue biker on white background. We leave the village on a slope and go on towards Sukoró village still on the marked bike track. After a few kilometres we need to turn right on an un-frequented road leading to Mosquito (Szúnyog) Island. Following the bike and the blacktop road marks on an ascendant we reach the Arboretum of Pákozd and Sukoró and soon the Pákozd Military Memorial Park. We have complet-ed half of the tour at these points; we can have a longer rest now. If we wish to continue the tour by ship, we need to ride down a slope to get to Mosquito (Szúnyog) Island, where scheduled list of sailing is available to the southern shore and back. From the Memorial Park we descend on a long slope towards Velence, our way goes parallel with the Sukoró Rowing and Kayak Lane. In Velence we can ride on the lake shore, and then we turn to the track going on the southern shore of the Lake that leads us back to Gárdony.

GÁRDONY - AGÁRD - DINNYÉS - PÁKOZD - SUKORÓ - VELENCE - GÁRDONY
The tour leads on a flat stretch in a biker-friendly en-vironment, so it can easily and pleas-antly be completed for all ages. The starting point is the parking place of the Trunk Cas-tle in Agárd, near-by you can also find the Lake Velencei Gallery and the birthplace of Géza Gárdonyi, the famous Hungarian novelist. The excursion begins on the Gárdonyi Géza the-matic walkway in Agárd: first we ride along near the Thermal Spa of Agárd and the Sándor Károly Football Academy. Then we pass the Chernel István Primary and Secondary School and the Nádasdy Obelisk. A table marks all sights along the way. We cross high-way 7 on the pedestrian crossing then the railway through the railway crossing and continue our way on the southern bike track of Lake Velencei. The track follows the lake shore. Near Agárd we can visit the Chernel István Birdwatching Tower. From this point the table-marked Lakeshore tour of the Bird-song Nature Trail and the bike track goes together, this is where we ride along until the Souh-western end of the lake. We carefully cross highway 7 here and ride on an unfrequented road towards Dinnyés. We cross the railway at the crossing and turn right on the István Müller tour of the Birdsong Nature Trail.

FAMILY TOUR ON THE BIRDSONG NATURE TRAIL
18,4 km • ~1,5 hours
On this path tables help us to reach the watchtower of the nature trail where we can observe the unique birdlife of the Dinnyés Fertő. Turning back we go back on the same road. On the way we should not miss the Dinnyés Churchyard Folk Touristic Centre where we can find the largest open-air stage of the region.We ride on the bike track connecting Dinnyés and Agárd where we turn right at Széchenyi street. We again follow the information tables of the nature trail and arrive through the Parkforest (Parkerdő) at the Agárdi Distillery. From here we return to the thematic walkway and get back to the Trunk Castle. We can also finish our tour at the Simon Guest-house and Vineyard which is about a kilometre away riding on an unfrequented road.

FAMILY TOUR ON THE BIRDSONG NATURE TRAIL
AGÁRD – DINNYÉS – AGÁRD
18,4 km • ~1,5 hours
The tour begins at Gárdony railway station where we cross to the bike track going parallel with high-way 7. We ride until Velence where we cross the rail through an underpass. In Kápolnásnyék on the route Gárdonyi street – Dózsa street- Vörösmarty street we reach Vörösmarty Memorial House. We again cross the rail in the bike underpass turn-ing to the North on Vörösmarty street to head to-
wards Pázmánd. We ride over the motorway 7 and among the weekend houses on the left, we need to find the steep street that leads to Bálint Wine Centre. We need to ride uphill to get to the village. If we turn left on Kossuth street and then turn left again, we can get to the crosses and streak rocks of the Jewish (Zsidó) Hill on a steep dirt road. In the centre of Pázmánd we can visit the Folkhouse and the Fireman warehouse. As we continue our tour towards Vereb we find the most popular sight

TOUR ON THE SLOPES OF VELENCE HILL
20 km • ~2 hours
in the centre of the village, the Furnace with three gates. Riding on the roller coaster like road to Lovas-berény, we can discover a me-morial place dating back to the Settlement of the Magyars in the Carpatian Basin called Pagan Rock (Pogánykő). From Lo-vasberény up till Nadap the most difficult stage of the tour comes, we need to overcome a long uphill road in the Velence Hill. To get to Nadap we race down on the same length of road as we have just overcome. In the centre of the village we can vis-it the church where Mihály Vörösmarty, the famous Hungarian poet, was baptised. At this point we turn right to find the Primary Refer-ence Mark which marks the elevation basic point in Hungary. Here we can find a number of nature trail tables giving information about the geograph-ical significance of primary reference marks and the flora and fauna of the area. From Nadap a long, steep slope brings us to Velence where we join in the bike track around the lake to return to Gárdony.

TOUR ON THE SLOPES OF VELENCE HILL
GÁRDONY - VELENCE - KÁPOLNÁSNYÉK - PÁZMÁND - VEREB - LOVASBERÉNY - NADAP - VELENCE - GÁRDONY

During the tour we can take a look at the sights of the region on the mountain bike tracks of Velence Hill. The starting point is the Primary Reference Mark in Nadap. We can get to the mountain bike track by following Rákóczi street - Haladás road - Sukurói road. We turn right from the track marked by a yellow line onto the path marked by the red line and the blue biker symbol on the white background. Climbing a long acclivity we get close to the peak of Hot Hill (Meleg-hegy). We can enjoy a wonderful view from the highest point of the tour. Following the biker symbol, we reach Angelika spring which is one of the best known among the water springs of the hill. We again follow the biker symbol, but we can also see the green line tourist symbol on the trees. A slope takes us down the hill and where the green line separates from the biker symbol, we reach the blacktop road connecting Sukoró and Pákozd.

MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR AROUND SUKORÓ
44,5 km • ~3,5 hours
First we turn towards Pákozd and racing down a slope we turn right to get to Lics Vineyard. In the next stage of the tour we return to the blacktop road and take the course towards Sukoró. When we get into the village we follow Pálinkaház street – Calf Valley (Borjúvölgy) – Szilvási lane to get to the House of Ethnology. Pro-ceeding on Szilvás Lane we find the Reformed Church where on 28th September 1848. a very important court-martial took place with the leadership of two great historical per-sonalitites, János Móga and Lajos Batthyány. From the church we follow Old (Öreg) street and Nadap road to discover the Wobbling Stones of Sukoró. One of the stones is called Wooly Sack referring to its special shape. This unique stone collection can al-ready be familiar from other guidebooks. We return to the highway on Main street where we ride towards Velence. We are going to climb the last hill of the tour but the view awaiting us will make up for everything. On Csongor street we first find Vörösmarty Cellar and the statue of Saint Orban, protecting saint of wine, then we ride up on Panorama road to enjoy the amazing view of the whole Lake Velencei from the top of Bence Hill. Turning back on Panorama road we turn left and on the dirt road marked by the
