Description:
The City of Churches, 33 in total –the age of Christ when he died and resuscitated– is a place whose inhabitants are affable and cheerful, and express a spiritual development that dates back to pre-Hispanic times. Its festivals have a strong religious undertone, even the Carnival, which has been declared National Cultural Heritage. Ayacucho, also known as Huamanga, is the capital of the department, and its inhabitants are remarkably creative. The works of skilled goldsmiths, potters, carvers, sculptors and weavers dazzle the visitors. Because of this, Ayacucho is also known as Peru’s Capital of Folk Arts and Handicrafts. Ayacucho offers interesting options for cultural tourism and nature enthusiasts.
