The pump panel is located in Compartment #1, the LED light at the top in the image will

illuminate when the pump is engaged.

Once pump is engaged, press the “CONTROL MODE” button once, and the “PRESSURE

CONTROL” light will illuminate indicating throttle is ready to use in pressure mode. If button

is pressed a second time, the throttle will switch to RPM mode. T14 has no discharge pressure

relief valve and will automatically throttle up and down to maintain the pressure that is set.

IF you press “PRESET” the current preset pressure is 165 psi.

4

Driver and passenger side 5” Supply inlets are opened via these electronic valves. Hold

“OPEN” button to introduce water. Pump will automatically throttle down and maintain set

pressure as water pressure from supply line is introduced. BE AWARE, it will only throttle

down to idle engine speed. You may still have to GATE DOWN your discharge. You will not

have to adjust the throttle if you have set the pressure governor correctly.

The preset values on these valves will open them to 50% (1/2 open).

Continue operations as normal. You should still see the “pump illumination” light

come on over the panel and hear the pump engage.

As a note, it is not recommended by Pierce to us the apparatus pump for hose testing

(see Pierce PUC Operation and Maintenance Manual, pg 4-7 section 4-4 for a caution

note).

Additional Control Differences – CAB TILT

Cab tilt controls are on passenger side in compartment 6.

The pump (blue arrow) on a PUC is visible by tilting the cab. The PTO shaft (red arrow)

is shielded as it is rotating any time the engine is running.

Additional Control Differences – GENERATOR

To engage generator, first press “AERIAL PTO” then “GEN PTO” while the truck is not in

motion, then press “GEN ON/OFF” so that both are illuminated. The Generator must be on

for the “DS FLOOD”, “PS FLOOD”, and “FRONT BASKET FLOOD” lights to work. The “REAR

SCENE” lights will work without them (12V).

Extrication Battery Charging Plug: In compartment 10 there is a quad receptacle with one

side painted red. The batteries for the extrication tools in this compartment are normally

plugged into the non-painted side which is connected to shore power. IF on-scene additional

charging is necessary, the power strip may be plugged into the red side and then with the

Generator ON and the PS FLOOD lights ON the red receptacles will be powered up.

12

AERIAL OPERATION

Aerial operation is essentially the same as L04 & 05. Cab controls include:

1. AERIAL MASTER

2. AERIAL PTO

3. FRONT WHEEL LOCK (Brake)

Page 13: Tower 14 (L-06) 2015 Pierce Arrow XT PUC (Pierce Ultimate ...€¦ · “Video” on the command zone screen. You can change which cameras (or combination thereof) are displayed with

13

The FRONT WHEEL LOCK can be left on (per pierce training rep) as it will shut off when the

ignition is turned off. When the ignition is turned back on it will turn on (you’ll hear the air

being applied to the front brakes). When the spring brakes are turned off, the front wheel

lock function will also turn off. When the spring brakes are re-applied, the FRONT WHEEL

LOCK will re-engage.

This is typically left stowed in the bucket on the floor. If left on and you “Auto Stow” the

monitor with the fog nozzle, the nozzle will hit the bracket (see picture below). Note controls

are similar to other aerials and you have the ability to control the left (engineer’s side) nozzle

here via switches here, switches at the pedestal, or….

Fog nozzle is a 300-2000 GPM automatic nozzle for 80-120 PSI. Currently the nozzle is set at

the 100psi setting. Use flow meter!

Per TFT the “Lower PSI setting is for maximum flows” and the “Higher PSI setting is for

increasing reach”.

Other Cab Operations –

Siren control head…In addition to mechanical siren operated by the foot switch or officers

push button, there is an electronic siren. Push one button to turn it on & cycle it, push both

to turn it off.

Note: The air horn is run via the steering wheel horn switch or officers push button. A floor

switch will be installed by fleet at a future service.

23

There is a backup and right turn camera. The right turn camera activates with the turn signal,

the back up with the transmission in Reverse. You can manually activate them by pressing

“Video” on the command zone screen. You can change which cameras (or combination

thereof) are displayed with the “QUAD” button.

The Command Zone Display may be dimmed manually by going through the menu. Or, if the

headlights are kept on, as on most apparatus, cycle the headlight switch off and back on and

the display will auto dim to the “night display brightness” setting.

DIFF LOCK - This is a Driver Controlled Differential Lock (DCDL), not to be confused with the

Inter-Axle Differential LOCK (IADL). This button when pressed activates a “locker” in the rear

axle of the tandem to further combat loss of drive traction. Only activate it without wheel

slippage (either speed of zero or wheels spinning at the same speed). Also follow these

instructions:

Only engage DCDL under poor road conditions

Do not engage during downhill operation

Do not engage or operate above speeds of 25 mph.

Instruction Notes:

Heavier than L-02&L-03 at 82000 lb and longer than L-02 (48’ 5-1/2”)

Cab – two emergency master switches – one down low E-M and standard

overhead

Pumping- similar to E16. Pump stationary in neutral. If put in gear (Drive) it goes

into “Pump and Roll Mode” and disables the hand throttle, and yes, it will pump

and roll when you do this (wildland).

Rear axle – same IAD like other towers, activate with switch at right knee. Also

had DCDL, Driver Controlled Differential Lock, aka “Locker” in rear axle. Can be

used with IAD, or without, engage w/o axles spinning, never more than 25mph

indicated speed, not while going downhill, only low traction.

Aerial operations – Similar to L04/05. Single control, no pins on outriggers. Cab

switches for PTO and Master

120 V generator / lights. Rear “scene” is 12v will work when button pushed. All

others are 120 v requiring generator.

Valve presets

TPMS (valve stem caps, illuminate red when pressure < 8psi below) – To be

removed at future date?
