Charles (Chuck) Edward Bumgarner

7/24/1938 - 9/24/2018Charles (Chuck) Edward Bumgarner, 80, was born July 24,1938 in Winslow, AZ to William Melvin Bumgarner and Mable Elizabeth Lunceford Bumgarner. He entered into rest on September 24, 2018 surrounded by his family. Chuck attended school in Winslow except for 2nd grade and half of 3rd grade, where he attended school in Cottonwood, AZ. While in high school, he played for the Winslow Bulldogs Varsity Football and Basketball teams before graduating in 1956. He attended The University of Arizona, before transferring to AZ State College (NAU), graduating in 1961 with a BS in Accounting.

Chuck worked for the Santa Fe at the age of 16 with permission from his parents. He worked in the stock yards, on trucks out of the freight house, and while in college he worked as a yard checker in Flagstaff. After completing college, he moved to Wyoming working at other various jobs including a logging company and a dude ranch. After returning home, he worked for EI Grand Motors. At the age of 52, after 36 years with the Santa Fe, he opened his own business (Half Moon Express Services) providing port-a-pots and servicing septic tanks, finally retiring in 2000 at the age of 62. He was a proud member of the Winslow Elks Lodge #536 for 56 years, where he was fondly referred to as “Bummie” by his many friends. He made countless memories that he spoke of and laughed about frequently.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Teri Bumgarner; his sister, Sharon (Richard) Hasten of Alamogordo, NM. His children, Kevin (Angie) Bumgarner of Kansas City, KS; Kacee Bumgarner of Winslow, AZ; Kristi (Frank) Ulibarri of Winslow, AZ; Shelley (Steve) Bumgarner-Baker of Mesa, AZ; Haley McCauley of Winslow, AZ; Randy (Debbie) Bumgarner of Gilbert, AZ; Wendy Bumgarner of Bullhead City, AZ; and niece, Kelley Ahrens of Alamogordo, NM.
