Townsville Enterprise

Townsville Enterprise is the peak economic development and destination

marketing organisation for the North Queensland Region.

Our mission is to build and develop North Queensland to achieve sustainable

economic and lifestyle benefits for the Region and Australia.

Townsville Enterprise is currently seeking investment for five major projects:

• Power/Energy Generation – Demand for energy is increasing within the Region and

companies within the energy generation industry are being sought after to meet the demand

of a growing industry base.

• Entertainment, Exhibition and Sporting Complex – The Townsville Region envisions a

newly developed Entertainment, Exhibition and Sporting complex within the next five years

to cater for the escalating sporting, business and events industry.

• Data Centre - Townsville is actively developing its emerging Information and Communications

Technology (ICT) industry, and is strongly interested in the establishment of a data centre within

the city. As one of the first cities in Australia to be connected to the NBN, Townsville is in a

fortunate position to boast numerous optic fibre networks within the city; (e.g. Nexium network,

AARNet, Nextgen), providing a data centre with ideal network redundancy.

• Residential and Commercial Development – Due to an increasing population, there are

numerous residential and commercial development opportunities available within

the Region. Specific projects are available upon request.

Accommodation, Meetings and Conventions Facilities – With very strong corporate

business and Government presence, an increase in successful major events and a

strong and growing business events industry, there is a high demand for 3, 4 and 5

star room stock.

If you would like further information on any of these investment opportunities, please contact us.

Townsville City Council

Townsville’s extraordinarily diverse and prosperous economy is strategically

linked to mining and minerals processing sectors that are driving Australia’s

growth. Combined with its roles as the nation’s largest garrison city and

Queensland’s second capital, Townsville is providing rare opportunity and

stability during uncertain economic times and is being widely recognised as

a model for regional economic success.

The Townsville City Council is leading the way with intensive strategic planning and major reforms to meet

the needs of investors and developers. We are playing an active role in the development of dedicated

productive precincts focusing on industrial, defence and knowledge-based activities. With investment in

transport infrastructure to further improve our domestic and international connections by air, road, rail and

sea, Townsville is becoming a natural hub for industry and business.

The CBD Master Plan identifies strategies for higher densities, improved services and public transport

to facilitate a growth target of 30,000 people living or working in the CBD by 2030. Council is prioritising

development within the CBD by providing incentives in the form of financial concessions on infrastructure

and other fees and charges, relaxation of car parking requirements for applicable developments, and

assistance with other agencies’ requirements on construction hours and site access. The CBD Incentives

Program is already delivering results to stimulate confidence, activity and momentum to revitalise the CBD.

As we develop and implement these reforms, Townsville is becoming the standout city in which to do

business. Our initiatives are paying dividends with cranes once again above Townsville’s skyline.

‘Our challenge is to continue supporting major city-building projects, working hand-in-hand with our

industry partners to bring new investment to Townsville.’ – Cr Jenny Hill, Mayor of Townsville.

Port of Townsville Limited (POTL)

Located on the shoreline of tropical North Queensland, adjacent to the Great

Barrier Reef Marine Park, the Port of Townsville is a world class gateway for

global trade and investment.

one of the world’s leading exporters of base metals (by variety), the port links to

the vast hinterland that serves the North West and North East Queensland Mineral Provinces and is also

Australia’s largest exporter of raw sugar and molasses.

reflected in the trade profile of the Port, which is a key cog in the natural regional supply chain valued

at AUD$15 billion, employing over 112,000 people, home to 58 operating mines (with another 248 active

prospect sites) and 1,996 farming establishments over 30 million hectares of land.

Industrial Park

Charters Towers Regional Council is in the process of developing additional

land for industrial use adjacent to the existing Cunningham Industrial Estate.

Located on the north eastern extreme of the City of Charters Towers, the

industrial park enjoys direct access to a heavy vehicle multi combination route

(Flinders Highway bypass) and will be serviced with all necessary infrastructure

including single and three phase power, sealed roads and street lighting.

Development approvals being sought will ensure appropriate zoning for all traditional industrial use without

the requirement for any further planning approval in the form of Material Change of Use or otherwise

(excepting requirements for environmental licensing). Stage one of the development comprising nine

serviced allotments is proposed to be released for sale by auction off plan December, 2012.

Although Council has approved a concept subdivision, expressions of interest addressing appropriate lot

sizes for specific industry needs will be further considered so as to ensure that the most contemporary

design features addressing industry specific needs are available to industry users.

Charters Towers Regional Council supports investments from a wide range of private investors as well as

from both the State and Federal Governments. New projects and developments across various industry/

economy sectors are expected to ultimately diversify the labour market and grow the regional economy

over the next decade.
