video managed service providersand vendors to work togetheronsolvingtheB2Bproblemonceandorall.Temissionisbold,but its membership includes some big names necessary or aninitiativeothisleveltowork.
Te OVCC is oen mistaken as a technology standardsorganization,similartotheJC-VC,whichiscurrentlyworkingon the H.265 protocol. Tis is an understandable mistake,but a mistake nonetheless. Te OVCC will not be publishingany protocols; its work is more about policy agreements thantechnologyadvances.Teseagreements are ocused onmakingB2BvideoconerencingassimpleasB2Btelephony.
We spoke withOVCCVice President JohnPoole togeta littlebackgroundontheOVCC,itscurrentstatusandutureroadmap.JohnexplainedthattheOVCCislayingoutatwo-phaseprocess
involvingtwoseparateB2Bstrategies.Ratherthanchoosebetweenvideoexchangesor cloudservices (meet-merooms),the OVCCisgoingullborewithbothapproaches.Atrulyuniversalvideoexchangeistheultimatedream.Everyvideoconerencingsystemwill somedayhave auniversalnumberthatcan bedialed romanyothervideoconerencingsystem,justthewayphonesystemsworktoday.OVCCmembersareworkingtowardsthatgoalanddevelopingonpoliciestoconnecttheexistingexchangeislands.A

Meanwhile, OVCC has been able tomove much aster on themeet-me ront. A recent press release noted that six OVCCmembers(A&,BCSGlobal,Airtel,B,Glowpoint,andOrange)developedanOVCCinterconnectnetworktosupportnewOVCCcompliant services.John conrmed that thesenew servicesarealreadybeingoferedbysomeOVCCmembers.PreviousailedattemptsatubiquitousB2Bmaytemperourenthusiasmoractuallsolvingtheproblemintheoreseeableuture.However,inthelasewyearstheOVCChasmadeprogressontheB2Brontandasaresult,theruitsoitsefortsareactuallybeingimplementedtodaybysomeotheworldslargestserviceproviders.
ConclusionTeexamplesabovearebutaewotheoptionsavailabletothoswantingtoconnectwithpartners,vendorsandcustomers.Whilethe optionsmay seem daunting, the act is that B2B islot lesscomplicated,expensiveandconusingthanitwasamereewyearsago.Bottomline:odayssolutionswork,andtheyworkwell.Wenolongerhavetocrossourngersandhopeorthebestwhenattemptingtocalloutsidetherewall.
