CurrentsolutionUntilnow,forapplicationswithhighsafetyrequirements,absoluterotaryencoderswithadditionalincrementalsignalshavebeenused.Theincrementalsignalsfunctionasacontroloverthepositioningvalues.Withthismethod,therewasasafetydeficitwhenturningonthemachine,becausetherewasonlyoneabsolutevalueavailable.

ThebasicsafetynormIEC61508differentiatesbetweenmeasurestoeliminateerrorsandmeasurestocontrolerrors.Themeasurestoeliminateerrorsembracetheentiredesignanddeve-lopmentprocess.Thesearerequiredforthedevelopmentofindividualcomponentsandtheyservetoavoidsystematicerrors.Importantforerrorcontrolarequantifiablecharacteristicsoftheconsideredcomponentsandofthecompletesystem.Priorityhastheprobabilityofadangerousfailureofthesafetyfunction.Thecalculationresultsoftheratedfailureprobabilityofallindividualcomponentsfortheentiresafetychain.

PLWithinthenormENISO13849-1fivecategoriesaredefinedcalledperformancelevels(PL).Theyarebuildinguponeachotherstartingwitha,b,c,dande.Thedifferentlevelshelptoclassifysafety-relatedperformances.Theyaredeterminedoutoftheaverageprobabilityvalueofadangerousfailureandthediagnosticcoverageandconsideringthestructuralconstructionofasystem(howmanychannelshasthesystem,howindependentaretheyfromeachother).OursafetyrotaryencodersarecertifiedaccordingtoPL“e”thehighestperformancelevel.

Ifthisvaluewaswrongduetodatalossoranadjustmentvalue,itcouldn’tbedetected.

CertifiedsolutionTheabsoluterotaryencoderCD_75Mcapturestherevolutioninforma-tionthroughamechanicalgearwithoutabatterybackedrevolutioncounter.Development,technologyandproductionofthisdeviceiscerti-fiedthroughtheTÜV*.Theyareusedinplantsandequipmentrequiringsafetyintegritylevel3(SIL3:IEC61508/EN62061)oraperformancelevele(PLe:ENISO13849-1).TheCD_75PROFIsafeadditionallygivesoutsafespeedvalues.

ThedoublerotaryencodersystemwithhollowshaftandmultiturndetectionfulfillstherequirementofEN615081.Theuseofcertifiedindividualcomponentsmakesiteasierforthesystemintegratortofulfillsafetyrequirementsoftheentireapplication,forexamplewithintheeventtechnologyandstorageandlogistictechnology.TheuseofourSIL3certifiedsafetyabsoluterotaryencoderliberatestheuserfromtheobligationtoprovefunctionalsafetyforthisposi-tioningsensorseparately.Withcertifiedcomponentsthestrictsafetyguidelineswillbeachieved.ThedoublerotaryencodersCD_75Mare

TheactualvalueswillbetransferredoverPROFIsafe.Withinthesafeprotocolparttheactualvalueandthespeedwillbetransferred.ThesevaluesarealsoavailableovernotsafenormalPROFIBUS/PROFINETtelegrams.Therefore,safeandnormalcontrolpartshaveaccesstoit.CertifiedarethePROFIBUS/PROFINETactivation,thePROFIsafecompliance,aswellasthefulfillingofthesafetystandards(Furtherinformationyouwillfindonpage5).

Theactualvaluesforpositionandspeedaretransferredintwoslots:

Forsafetransmissiontheactualpositionvaluesofbothrotaryencodersystemsarecompared.Ifthedifferenceissmallerthantheadjustedcontrolwindow,therotaryencodervaluedoescountassafe.ThesafeactualpositionvalueandthehencecalculatedsafespeedvaluewillbetransferredoverthePROFIsafetelegram.Thepartofthecontroltakingonthesafetyrelatedtaskscanprocessthesevalues.

Theactualpositionvalueandthecalculatedspeedofthemainrotaryencoderaredirectlytransferredwithinthenotsafeprocessdatachannel.Usually,thischannelisprocessedmoreoftenbythecontroller.Normalautomationprocessescanaccessmoreoftenactualpositionvalues.

Themeasurementvaluesofsafespeedandsafemultiturnpositionaredeterminedwithinthecertifiedrotaryencoder.Theyaretransmittedoverasafebussystemtoanequallycertifiedsafetymodule.Therefore,thesafesensorvaluesareavailableforeachcontrolleroftheentiremachineorplant.Thisenablesintelligentsafetyconceptswherehumansandmachinessharetheworkenvironmentwithoutmechanicalsafetydevices.Workareascanbedividedintodifferentzoneswithadjustedsafetyrequire-ments.Positionandspeedvaluesareavailableforeithersafetyapplicationsoverasecuredchannelaswellasfornormalautomationfunctionsoveranotsecuredchannel(seepage11).Therefore,arotaryencoderforpositionfeedbackisunnecessary.DuetotheintegrationofthePLCasafeoperationwithalargerangeoffunctionscanbeguaranteed.
