Overheard at a recent OGCA meeting: “Grandpa, what IS the ‘American Way?”
Figuring a similar question could come my way soon, I sat down to articulate an answer. But nothing would flow -- all the words seemed small and forgettable. So I turned to echoes from our past.

The OGCA Civil Rights Defense Fund is pleased to announce the appointment of current OGCA Director Frank Kern as Trustee. The current Trustees are as fol-lows: OGCA Past President Ronald T. Clark, Directors of OGCA Frank Kern, and Maj. General Charles Metcalf (Ret). Our primary purpose is to support those individ-uals or entities who may have been wrong-fully accused of gun rights violations. The CRDF has been in existence since 1996 and has assisted in the defense of several gun rights actions.
At the November meeting, look for the CRDF table located in the lobby.
We generate funds to support the CRDF by donations and recruiting new and renewal members to the NRA. We will be open for new memberships AND renewals from
10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Look for the NRA/CRDF red table cover that states “JOIN HERE”. We accept either credit cards or personal checks. That’s right -- you do not need cash to sign up AND you will receive a discount off the normal NRA membership.

The raffle was a huge success, and the PAC committee would like to thank all who contributed and pulled together for this fundraiser.

Our regular meetings will remain at the Roberts Centre. FRANK KERN Life Member and Member of OGCA for 35 years. Profession: Retired outside sales, managed sales force over 2 states. Collecting Interests: Browning Hi-Powers, Colt SAA’s, Winchester military shotguns and pre-64 model 70’s, modern U.S. military firearms and fighting knives. Qualifica-tions: Current OGCA Director 2010-2012, Trustee of the OGCA Civil Rights Defense Fund Committee, Vice-Chairman of OGCA 2012 Annual Display Show, and Co-Chair of 2013 Display Show. Currently serves on Screening and Enforcement, OGCA Display Show, and Veterans Affairs Committees. Former Financial Secretary for the Southern Ohio Dog & Game Protective Association. Past ORPA Trustee and State of Ohio Hunter Safety Instructor. U.S. Army Captain and Artillery Battery Commander. Member-ships: NRA Benefactor Life Member and Member for 52 years, American Legion for 36 years, Miami Rifle and Pistol Club.
VINCENT F. LORD OGCA member for 5 years. Profession: Entrepreneur, President, and Owner of two companies. Partner and Instructor of a tactical training school. Gunsmith. Collecting Interests: Has an interest in all weaponry especially Colt Woodsmans, Winchester Shotguns, AR’s, 1911’s and knives. Qualifications: Owns and operates Valor Arms Manufacturing since 1997. Vincent Lord has been fascinated with building firearms since childhood and has transformed that interest into a career. Valor Arms builds custom rifles and the company has morphed into a federally-licensed manufacturer of custom-made precision rifles. In the process, Vince has become an accomplished gunsmith. In part-nership, he also started Valor Tactical in 2008, a concealed weapons permit, and tactical training school where he also teaches courses. Memberships: Member of the NRA.
SHERMAN M. KIRKLAND III Life Member of OGCA for 25 plus years. Profession: Owner/President of Sherman’s Automotive in Mentor, OH. Collecting Interests: H&R Handy Guns, Antique Flare and Gas Guns, and Projectors, 20th century U.S. and foreign military arms and accessories. Qualifications: Entrepreneur. Started his own business 36 years ago and is a past president of Solon Sportsman’s As-sociation and Trustee for Dallas Arms Collectors Association. Memberships: Life Member NRA, Life Member Dallas Arms Collectors Association and member of Solon Sportsman’s Association.
SEAN A. McCARTER Member of OGCA for 18 years. Profession: Private law practice. Collecting Interests: Harrington & Richardson single-shot target pistols, the USRA model and the Sportsmans; pistols relating to Walter F. Roper; pre-WWII American-quality double-barrel shotguns; and single-shot rifles. Collecting since the age of 6. Qualifications: Private law practice for 18 years. Legal practice focuses on business transactions, real estate deals and their litigation. Experienced in negotiations, creating contracts, resolving employment issues, dispute resolution and investigating controversies. Qualifications: (managed the purchasing and transportation functions of five specialty steel plants in three states); Cyclops Corporation, served as Director of Operations and Purchasing for Ultra Tech Plastics (managed all aspects of production and purchased raw materials).
