History.• It is believed that the rugby was born as many other games, of the

imagination of the former Greeks, but he(she) acquired his(its) character of sports joust in France. From remote epochs there was practised in this country a game in which two equipments(teams) were disputed the possession of a ball in whose(which) interior had got the prize for the victors.

• Nevertheless, one tells that the Rugby was invented in 1823 by a student of England, William Webb Ellis, of Rugby School. The game arose when William Ellis did traps in the rudimentary football that they were playing, and took the ball with the hands. Already there were known other precedents of accomplishments of games in which the hands were intervening in the playful activity, as for example the camp that was played in the century XV, the hurling of Ireland and the Jethart Ba ' of Scotland

• In 1871 there was founded Rugby Football Union and in the same year the first regulation was realized, since already there had been spread the practice of this sport, specially in the universities and schools, and from 1872 annual events were begun to realize, between(among) Cambridge and Oxford, except during the First World war.

• At the end of the Century XIX there was established the Tilt of the Five Nations: Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales and France. In 1908, the rugby was included in the Olympic Games, and later in 1920 and 1924, (in both years E.E.U.U. it(he,she) gained(earned) the golden medal), but it(he,she) did not show himself too much interest for this event .

• In 1954 there were realized the first championships of the FIRA, in which they took part(report) France, Italy and Spain. These did not return to celebrate even 1965-1966, but from this date, they are done every year.

• During the second half of the century XX numerous technologies(skills) and theories have developed on how to play better to the rugby and has been spread the game in several countries of the world.

• In 1906 in Paris, the rugby had his international début with the match that they disputed England and France, with British victory of 35 to 8.

• In the middle of S. XIX, the rugby was taken E.E.U.U., and there there had become popular already the football (Soccer), for what soon, it arose another sport mixes of football and rugby, the so called American Football, with rules formulated towards 1870 for the players of the equipment(team) of Harvard's university. The first party(game) was played in 1874 .

Rugby Union

• Step1 Assemble two teams of fifteen players each. There are eight forwards,

who mainly get possession of the ball, and seven backs who mainly carry and move the ball.

• Step2 Start play with the defensive team kicking the ball to the offensive team.

Run with the ball until tackled. You may also pass or kick the ball to a team mate, but you cannot pass the ball forward.

• Step3 Release or pass the ball if tackled. If released, the ball is open for anyone

to take. Play only stops on a rules violation, two opposing players grabbing the ball (known as a ruck or maul) or the ball going out of bounds.

• Step4 Restart play with a scrum after a rules violation, such as a ball dropped

forward or a forward pass, or a ruck or maul. This is when the forwards on the team lock up in a huddle and contest for the ball by kicking in backwards. The ball is thrown into the scrum by someone on the team that did not commit the violation.

• Step5Score four points for a try by downing the ball in the goal zone. A

conversion kick is then attempted though the goalposts for two extra points.

• Step6Score two points for a penalty kick through the goal posts. This occurs

only after a foul that definitely prevented a try from scoring.

• Step7Score one point for a field goal kick through the goal posts. Attempt this

with a drop kick while the ball is in play.

All Blacks History • The first game of rugby played in New Zealand took place before the

New Zealand Rugby Football Union was formed. From early European times, football in various forms had been played but from the description of the game in local papers, it is certain that the match between Nelson College and Nelson football club, played on 14 May 1870, was played under rugby rules
