Note One of the most frequent requests received by the secretariat concerns the species composition of trade flows, a matter which is of the greatest interest to producers and exporters of roundwood and sawnwood. This information has been collected in the context of the Joint Forest Sector Questionnaire for the past several years. Data were first published in 2004. We welcome your comments, which should be sent to the address below. Although the data have been reviewed and controlled for incorrect or unusual values, the quality of the data is limited by the fact that some countries did not provide any data or provided only partial data, and by the encouragement of the ECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Forest Products Statistics that publishing the information we do have is preferable to keeping it unavailable while trying to perfect it. Definitions The Forest Products Statistics includes definitions for roundwood and sawnwood. A copy of the questionnaire and the associated Harmonised System (HS) trade classification codes is available at the end of this publication.

Data source Data are provided through national correspondents who reply to the Joint Forest Sector Questionnaire, issued by ECE/FAO/Eurostat and ITTO. Data are taken from the questionnaire ECE/EU1 and from the UN’s COMTRADE and the EU’s COMEXT databases. Data aggregation and processing was finalized in December 2015. Symbols and Abbreviations used m3 = cubic meter US $ = US Dollar … = not available E = estimate by the secretariat R = figure repeated from the previous year N = national estimate Regional totals are sums of the corresponding countries and do not have any flags attached to the data. In some cases figures shown as repeated are not identical to the previous figures, either due to exchange rate variation or changes to figures which were not updated for following years. Acknowledgements We would like to thank the correspondents who provided data through the Joint Forest Sector Questionnaire as well as the members of the Intersecretariat Working Group on Forest Sector Statistics. These data would simply not be available without their contribution. A list of correspondents can be found in the Forest Products Annual Market Review publication.
