State Champion…AGAIN!

Lake Creek High School has much to be proud of and Senior Mason Williams is one of those students that makes us particularly proud. He not only won Lake Creek's first state championship, but is now the first to win such a title back to back as the UIL State Swim & Dive Champion in 2018 and 2019. Students and staff recently gathered to send Mason Williams and teammate Jacob Whittaker off to the competition in Austin, TX. They are led by Coach David James who is the 2019 State Dive Coach of the Year. Mason has committed to attend the University of Hawaii after graduation and has aspirations for competing in the Olympics.

It’s A Texas Thang!

Keenan Elementary celebrated Go Texan Day with everything Texan! Students and staff arrived in their finest Go Texan gear. All students line-danced their way through PE. The big finale was the Third Annual Chili Cook-Off between Keenan Elementary, Oak Hills Junior High, and Lake Creek High School. Mrs. Kirby is proud to announce that the Lion Trophy has returned to Keenan!

Oak Hills was represented at this year's Regional Destination Imagination Competition by two incredible teams and their sponsors, Mrs. Jebousek and Mrs. Krusleski.

Mrs. Jebousek's team, 'BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA', earned 2nd place in the ENGINEERING category at the Regional DI tournament! The teams' challenge was to design and build a bridge made ONLY from playing cards and duct tape that must be assembled during their Presentation. They then had to build and move specific weight measurements across the bridge to test its strength all while presenting a story about an unexpected connection and its outcome. Team members: Matthew Fitzgerald, Sierra Kennett, Taylor Spier, Briley Brown, and Trevor Hair impressed the judges, as they were the ONLY team in their category to make a successful bridge! Way to Go BOOM SHAKA LAKA!

Mrs. Krusleski's team, 'Disturbing Images', earned 3rd place at the Regional DI tournament! Team members Levi Turner, Grace Nichols, Avery Waida, and Averie Trimble impressed the judges with their life-sized puppets and color-changing tree. The team's challenge was to create and present a story about the first encounter between an outside species and a habitat, and show how an outside species and the habitat changed as a result of the encounter. Disturbing Images was up to the challenge and created and performed flawlessly! Way to go Disturbing Images!

First graders at Madeley Ranch recently took a field trip to Aggie Land Safari. It was an up close and personal experience for the students—they were able to feed and pet animals that they normally wouldn’t be able to if they visited the zoo. They saw kangaroos, giraffes, ostriches, snakes, and other exotic animals as they walked through the park and also rode on the safari bus through the park’s grasslands. The ostrich was a student favorite because it would eat from the feed buckets in such a way that the students laughed hysterically.

Third graders recently had their production of Seussical, directed by none other than the amazing Betsy Baney. Several students had speaking parts and the entire third grade class sang songs inspired by Dr. Seuss’ well known children’s books, including Horton Hears a Who. The students dressed up in their brightest and most colorful clothing. The play was perfect timing to celebrate Dr. Seuss, whose birthday is on March 2.

Go Texan Day at SCE

SCE students and staff celebrated Go Texan Day with a Go Texan Day Dance. Each grade level had fun dancing with their partners and keeping up with the faced paced line dancing. Everyone enjoyed the Dance Team that worked hard to perfect their dances during early morning practices for weeks before the dance. Thanks to those students for such an amazing performance and thanks to Coach Vaughn and Coach Bourgeois for teaching all of these students.

Future Historians!

Lone Star fifth graders love thinking like historians and that is exactly what they did with their recent Historical Event Essays. Their favorite part was the free choice of selecting what event they would write about, but they loved the entire process from beginning to end. The students are proud to explain how they began with simple brainstorming techniques followed by research and the development of their first rough draft. After individual conferences with their teacher and editing, they were still on the path of creating their own final product. Their teachers, Mrs. Roan and Mrs. Smith report that, "the students are so proud of their own work in the end and we are so proud of them too!"

These students learned that a good historian is one who is also a great listener. They reported that what they learned the most about was the importance of "getting the facts right" as they were charged with using their great listening skills when a story was told and also the skill of paying attention to details when reading. They are seeking first to understand, respecting history, and learning the importance of asking clarifying questions. Lone Star honors the greatness in these hard working 5th graders as they honor the greatness in our country's past.

The MJH StuCo is always looking for ways to serve and their sponsors, Pegi Morgan and Amanda Cook, are always looking for ways to develop legendary leaders. Recently, 315 pounds of canned goods were collected in the Souper Bowl of Caring Drive during the students’ history classes and later donated to the food pantry at Montgomery United Methodist Church.  It's one of many ways that StuCo kids learn to give back to the community. To StuCo’s President, Issac Moore, that’s essential. He said, “I’ve had family that remembers when growing up they had trouble getting food and being able to help prevent this from happening to others was great.” Isaac said he loves StuCo because the goal to help others, serve the community and build bigger hearts hits close to him and to his heart.

Lake Creek High School Library The LCHS Book Club recently started a new mystery novel, Truly Devious, after finishing books Flawed and Perfect by Cecilia Ahern. Our parent involvement night, Camp Learn-a-Lot, was so much fun. We enjoyed poetry by the fire, reading underneath the stars, and building geometric shapes with marshmallows. Parents and students had a fun time learning together at camp.

We were so blessed to have Mr. Napolitano join us Thursday as a WATCH D.O.G. He spoke to Mrs. Wieghat’s class about his amazing background in the secret service, his knowledge and work with the U.S. currency and what is was like being former police chief of Montgomery County along with many other fascinating things.

Fifth grade has worked very hard learning about ecosystems and creating an ecosystem that displays their animal interacting with the living and non-living factors in the environment.

Ms. Petty's kindergarten art classes have been working on 3D paper sculptures and learning how to make flat things POP!

Go Texan Day was celebrated in the cafe' and in the gym with students boot scooting around the floor. Grade level teachers we invited to join the fun too! Students in each grade level participated in various dances from Slapping Leather to the Chicken Dance! They practiced their fancy dance moves in P.E. with Coach Rader for two weeks leading up to this celebration.

Lincoln's second grade classes performed "Yee Haw", a Fun Texas themed program just in time for Go Texan Day! Mrs. Watkins once again delivered an entertaining program. The students worked hard to remember their lines, lyrics and dance moves! They performed Thursday evening for their families and Friday morning for students, faculty and family. Decorations were created in Art with Mrs. Lewis!
