GRITTY BRITISH REALISM

Depending on the environment your living in Britain you can be surrounded by good or the bad. Most estate streets in Britain often have gang crime close to the area and young teenagers all in one group causing mayhem to their local area. Great Britain today has increase in gang, knife crime a lot and police are finding hard to reduce this as the younger generation are more out of control then 100 of years ago. Maybe this is because the young Society may think the gang life is a cool popular thing to be associated in.

COMPARING TWO FILMS

•  Comparing Two British Films •  Bend it like Beckham is set in Great Britain, which fits in the gritty British realism

category. I know this as the surroundings of the film is streets with houses and parks, which local residents come together and play various activities such as football. The film has numerous cultures being starred by actors as jess (the main character) is from a Punjab Sikhs family in the plot with most of her family members also being included. Then there is also Jules (the daughter of an English couple with her friends from lots of different backgrounds from her football team. The main priorities of the Punjab Sikhs families in this British film is to ensure that when the daughters reach a certain age they will be required to get married as soon as possible as this is their sort of trend that all Punjab Sikh’s seem to follow. Throughout the film most scenes are in tower blocks as this shows how the Britain really is.

•  28 days later also set in Great Britain, which is also a British film as you can tell where the background is set. This consists of tower blocks, streets and tourist attractions as we can clearly see one of the scenes filmed right besides Big Ben. There are all cultures in the film as blacks, white and Asians. However this British film is not a realistic as the plot of the film consist of wild crazy people attacking other humans due to a virus that has been spreading.

EXAMPLES OF GRITTY BRITISH REALISM

•  This is England •  Kildulthood •  Slumdog Millionaire •  Four Lions •  28 Weeks later
