Traffic volume studies
Traffic volume study means determining the number, movement and Classification of Roadway vehicle at a given location or point of traffic stream. So it is defined as the procedure to determine mainly volume
of traffic moving on the roads at a particular section during a particular time.
Determining vehicle composition of traffic stream Determining service flow rate Determining directional distribution Peak hour flow Estimating average annual daily traffic AADT based on expansion factors Drawing flow-fluctuation curve

Automatic Counting Method
Manual Counting Method
Contact system based
Contactless system based
Direct method
Indirect method
Manual method:• Can be readily used• Easy classifying and
proportioning• Erroneous for long term
period and high volume
Automatic method:• Long duration suitability• Permanent station• Online data processing• Erroneous in non lane
based traffic• High initial cost• Problem in classifying
SHORT DURATION COUNT:MAINTENANCE,IMPROVEMENT
LONG DURATION COUNT:PLANNING,DESIGN
APPROACH:• RUSSEL SQUARE TO PANTHAPATH INTERSECTION
• GROUPED NUMERATORS• MANUAL COUNTING: Hand Counter, Tally Sheet, Clip board • Short count of fifteen minutes

RECOMMANDATION:• RUN A SHORT TERM TEST SURVEY• USE 1ST FLOOR FOR BETTER VIEW• IMPLY MORE MANPOWER FOR LIGHT VEHICLE COUNT
