tRAILERCOUPLINGSOne of the most important parts of the trailer is the coupling. There are various types depending on how the trailer has been constructed, and its Gross Weight. For a Braked Trailer you must have a type approved coupling which is available in A-frame and straight drawbar variations. Unbraked couplings are mostly designed for straight drawbar applications, and can only be used on trailers with a Gross Weight of less than 750kg. They are either manufactured from cast material or pressed steel, available to suit various different size box sections.

If the breakaway cable appears damaged in any form, has a torn plastic cover, has a kinked or frayed cable, or a distorted clip, it is recommended that a new cable be fitted. Make sure you always stipulate quality breakaway cables to be used each time you replace them as some inferior cables will break without activating the brakes!
