STEP 1: To Configure GPS Setting with Receiver
( 1 ) Setting to be changed:
Antenna Height :According to the height of receiver (1-2m)
Filename Prefix:Change it according to preference
Type: GeoXT internal
Between Feature Logging:Time, interval OFF

GPS Receiver Port:COM 3: TSIP Serial Port
Slide Scale:- Check, Drag it to CE
where PDOP = 6- Uncheck, to manual
the value.

STEP 2: To view GPS Status, receiver details and other information
1 SkyPlot To show Distribution of satellite.At least 1 satellite at each of the quarter to give good PDOP.
2 Satellite Info To view Satellite information - satellite is being used to calculate position
O - satellite is visible but not used
3 Receiver To view Receiver Information
4 Real-time To view Real time information ( if real time source is set up) (Beacon, WAAS,Omnistar etc)
**Note: Not applicable to CTP Training
5 Plan To Plan Data Collection Session. (Playback, simulate selected time)

DATA COLLECTION (TERRASYNC)
STEP 3: Collecting Data
Logging strategy and rules
We will start collecting data after STEP 1 and STEP 2 have been completed. The Main menus utilized in collecting data will be:-
DATA Menu to manage, collect and update data. MAP Menu to view map, show features, background, navigate NAVIGATION Menu for navigation indications.
Click on DATA MENU > Choose NEW ( SUB MENU )o File Type = Rover
o Location = Default
o File Name = Prefix_We_Set in Logging Setting, Follow by date.
o Dictionary Name = Select dictionary that we CREATED in PFO.
Select CREATE
Confirm the Antenna Height (Already set in SETUP > Logging Setting), Click OK.
You will notice screen as below when a file has been created with our selected Data
Dictionary.

Point Collection Rules
Point Stay stationary at the point (A) and waits for No. Satellites >= 4 and Epoch > 20s to ensure its accuracy.
If logging interval = 1s ( wait for = 20 )
If logging interval = 5s (wait for = 4)
To Collect a POINT
Highlight a POINT feature (for example, Survey Mark), click CREATE.
A COLLECT FEATURE SCREEN/ window pop out as shown below for us to key in
the attribute information for the selected feature (Survey Mark Point)
Will also notice on the right corner of the window, the PENCIL symbol indicates the
number of epochs that have occurred since starting to record. An Epoch is defined by
our logging interval which we have previously defined
Fill in the Attribute > Click OK.

Line Collection Rules
Line Stay stationary at the beginning point of line (Point A) , wait for No. Satellites >=4 and Epoch start to increase from 1s (must make sure it is increasing always when logging), start logging along the line, and finish logging at Point B.
If logging interval = 1s, we can easily notice if is continue increasing. If logging interval =
5s, we can monitor if is increasing by listening to the tu tut sound. (When epoch starting or stopping, there is a sound to indicate.)
To Collect a LINE
Highlight a LINE feature (In this case, Foot Path), Click CREATE.
A COLLECT FEATURE SCREEN/ window pop out as shown below for us to key in
the attribute information for the selected feature (Foot Path Line)
Will also notice on the right corner of the window, the PENCIL symbol indicates the
number of epochs that have occurred since starting to record. An Epoch is defined by
our logging interval which we have previously defined

To Collect an AREA
Highlight a LINE feature (In this case, Area Generic), select CREATE.
A COLLECT FEATURE SCREEN/ window pop out as shown below for us to key in
the attribute information for the selected feature (Area Generic Area )
Will also notice on the right corner of the window, the PENCIL symbol indicates the
number of epochs that have occurred since starting to record. An Epoch is defined by
our logging interval which we have previously defined
Fill in the Attribute > Click OK.
Note that AREA GENERIC is selected in this case, as there is NO AREA FEATURE being
created in our DATA DICTIONARY. Therefore, we use the generic feature.
Area Collection Rules
Stay stationary at the beginning point of line (Point A), wait for No. Satellites >=4 and Epoch start to increase from 1s (must make sure it is increasing always when logging), start logging along the line, and finish logging at Point A to form an area

To UPDATE Features
We have collected POINT, LINE and AREA in the exercise. Assuming that we wanted
to update the features.
Click on DATA MAIN MENU > Choose UPDATE (SUB MENU). List of Features that we have collected will be showed on the screen.
Highlight features that you wish to update or continue > Click BEGIN (2A)
(Alternatively you can click OPTION (2B) > Continue.)
Then, Attribute Screen appear with the Logging PENCIL appear and will notice the
logging is Being PAUSED.
2A) Select Begin
1) Highlight feature to update
2B) Option > Continue
If button shows LOG, means it is at PAUSEstatus and vice versa.

If you click on LOG button, 2 Option available:
To continue Feature (Append) Select this option to continuelogging the LINE or AREA with thesame attribute. (or you can rename
the attribute as well)To Update Feature (replace) Select this option to Update the
features position and attribute.
Old attribute will be replaced withthe new edited one

To view features those have been collected in graphical representation, click MAP

To Set Target for NAVIGATION
In the map menu, display the features that you have been collected.
Select one of the features (eg: Point 14 - Survey Mark) using select tool.
Choose OPTION > Set Nav Target > 14 Survey Mark.
Select Navigation Main MENU.
To clear the target, Option > Clear Navigation Target
Alternatively, go to DATA MAIN MENU > Update feature (Submenu) > select feature you want to navigate > option > set nav target.
Use Select tool to select feature on themap view. Under option, Set 14 Survey Mark(point) as Navigation Target
Notice that the target is displayed inblue Cross Flag symbol.
Go to Navigation menu, analyze thedetails and navigate to the point.

To Navigate from GPS point to Target
Same process involved as above
Go to Map Menu, select target to navigate.
Choose OPTION > Set Nav Target > 14 Survey Mark.
Next, OPTION > Set Nav Start > GPS Point. (This will create a single blue flag symbol
which indicate navigation starting point ( GPS )
You will also notice a base line has been created for viewing purpose.
Next, move on to NAVIGATION Main menu, based on the detail and navigate to the
point.

To Enter Coordinate (Digitize) for Navigation
Under DATA > Collect Features, choose point feature to create a point first, >
CREATE and pause it immediately.
Go to MAP > choose digitize. A Digitize symbol will appear on the right corner (beside
battery) to indicate we are now at digitize mode.
Under OPTION>choose ENTER COORDINATE. A form to enter latitude and
longitude appear.

Enter Coordinate of the position that you wish to create in format as below according
to your coordinate system and press OK.

** This is the coordinate in Palembang.
Back to DATA > Enter the attribute of the position > and press OK.
Under DATA > Update Feature, choose the point that we have just created. Under
OPTION, choose SET NAVIGATION Target.
You will notice a cross-flag is placed on the feature.
Go to MAIN MENU --> choose NAVIGATION to navigate to the desired position by
following the guidance on navigation screen (turn, arrow, heading, bearing, distance)
File Manager (Delete / Copy / Email data file)
File Manager allow us to delete, copy, rename, move files (data dictionary / base files
/ background file etc) within the handheld.
To view options (delete, copy, etc) for data management, click DATA main menu >
File Manager (Sub menu) > Choose file types > option.
We can also create / edit Data dictionary file that we have already created in PFO
when we are on the field. This can be done by DATA > FILE MANAGER >
Dictionaries > select dictionary file to edit > Option > Edit dictionary.
Once you have edited it, save the file.

Assuming that we wanted to collect the LINE (Ubi Avenue) and POINT (My house) as showed in the picture.
Case Study:
1. Click on DATA > Collect Feature (Submenu) > Select LINE feature (foot path etc) >
CREATE > Key in the attribute (Ubi Avenue 1) > walking until POINT A > PressPAUSE II > Click OK. (Go to Map menu to see if your point is recorded).
2. Walk to the point location My house.
3. Select DATA > Collect Feature (submenu) > Select POINT feature (HOUSE) >
CREATE > wait for enough satellite and Epoch (refer page 23) > key in attribute >
Click OK. (Go to Map menu to see if your point is recorded)
4. Come back to POINT A (the point where you PAUSE your line feature.
5. Click DATA > Update Feature (Submenu) > select the line (Ubi Avenue 1) > Click
Option > Continue > when you reach the end of line, Click OK.

Revision: Step to continue a feature (Line / area)
To start a feature, DATA> Collect data, choose line and start logging from Point A. When you reach Point B, we click on PAUSE, then OK to halt the logging processing. Navigate to House to collect point feature. After finishing logging point for HOUSE, we navigate back to Point B. Choose DATA>update feature> choose the LINE that we use to update, press OPTION, and continue. At last, key in the attribute for the line.
