Ground Transportation

From Heathrow Airport

For  those  travelling  to  London  via  air  to  Heathrow  Airport,  there  are  a  number  different  ways  to  get  into  Central  London.    Taxi  is  perhaps  the  easiest  and  most  direct  way,  but  also  expensive  (about  £50-‐70  one  way).    The  Piccadilly  line  of  the  London  Underground  terminates  at  the  airport,  and  will  take  you  into  the  heart  of  the  city.    A  one-‐way  fare  runs  from  £2.90  to  £5.30  depending  upon  time  of  day  and  form  of  payment,  and  takes  about  45  minutes.    The  Heathrow  Express  (http://www.heathrowexpress.com)  is  a  train  that  runs  non-‐stop  from  the  airport  to  Paddington  Station,  and  costs  £20-‐28  one-‐way,  or  £28-‐52  for  a  return  (round-‐trip)  ticket.    From  Paddington  Station,  you  can  connect  to  the  Circle,  District,  Hammersmith  &  City,  and  Bakerloo  lines  of  the  Underground.

Within Central London While  you’re  in  London,  you  have  many  options  for  getting  from  one  point  to  another.    Perhaps  the  best  and  fastest  way,  especially  for  longer  distances,  is  the  London  Underground,  also  known  as  “The  Tube”.    The  Tube  system  consists  of  11  lines  and  270  stations  serving  Central  London  and  the  surrounding  areas.    Fares  vary,  depending  upon  the  zones  of  the  origin  and  destination,  time  of  day  and  form  of  payment.    But  typically,  you  can  travel  between  any  two  points  within  Central  London  (Zone  1)  for  £2.00  each  way  using  an  Oyster  Card.

Another  option  is  London’s  infamous  red  double-‐decker  buses.    The  buses  travel  throughout  Central  London.    A  single  bus  fare  is  £2.30  if  paying  with  cash,  or  £1.35  if  using  an  Oyster  Card.

If  you  plan  to  use  the  tube  or  the  buses  on  a  regular  basis  during  your  stay,  you  may  wish  to  purchase  an  Oyster  Card.    The  Oyster  Card  is  a  plastic  smartcard,  similar  in  size  to  a  credit  card,  which  you  can  use  in  place  of  a  paper  ticket.    You  can  “top  up”  the  card  with  any  amount  of  money  over  £10.00,  and  then  simply  touch  it  to  the  yellow  card  reader  as  you  enter  or  exit  a  station,  or  board  a  bus.    Using  an  Oyster  Card  to  pay  your  fare  usually  means  lower  fares  than  if  you  had  purchased  a  single-‐use  paper  ticket.

In  addition  to  the  Tube  and  buses,  the  Oyster  Card  can  also  be  used  on  the  DLR  (Docklands  Light  Rail),  London  Overground,  trams,  boats,  and  National  Rail  services.

For  more  information  about  transportation  in  and  around  London,  including  the  Underground,  buses  and  the  Oyster  Card,  please  visit  the  Transport  for  London  website:  http://www.tfl.gov.uk/.

To the Training Venue Imparando  Learning  Centre,  the  venue  hosting  the  training,  is  located  a  short  3-‐minute  walk  from  the  Aldgate  East  tube  station,  on  the  District  and  Hammersmith  &  City  lines.    When  exiting  the  tube  at  Aldgate  East,  look  for  the  signs  for  Exit  4,  toward  Whitechapel  High  Street  (south  side).    Upon  alighting  from  the  station,  head  southwest  on  Whitechapel  High  Street  for  a  very  short  distance  until  you  reach  Commercial  Road,  just  past  the  London  Metropolitan  University.    Turn  left  onto  Commercial  Road,  and  follow  it  for  approximately  300  feet  (91.5  m).    Imparando  will  be  on  your  right,  at  56  Commercial  Road.

For  more  information  about  getting  to,  please  visit  the  Imparando  website.

Arriving at the Training Venue Reception  for  the  Imparando  Learning  Centre  is  to  your  left  immediately  upon  entering  the  building.    Let  the  receptionist  know  that  you  are  attending  Mirth  Training,  and  they  will  ask  you  to  sign  in.    You  will  also  be  given  a  four-‐digit  code  that  you  will  use  for  the  rest  of  the  week  to  access  the  classroom  area.

After  signing  in,  the  receptionist  will  direct  you  to  the  waiting  area  on  one  of  the  upper  floors,  where  there  will  be  refreshments  available.    On  the  first  day,  your  instructor  will  meet  you  at  the  waiting  area  when  class  is  ready  to  begin,  and  show  you  to  the  classroom.

Imparando  opens  at  approximately  08:30  each  morning.    We  suggest  that  on  the  first  day,  you  arrive  by  08:45  in  case  you  have  any  problems  finding  or  getting  to  the  venue.    On  subsequent  days,  you  can  arrive  any  time  between  08:30  and  09:00,  and  go  straight  to  the  classroom  if  you  wish.

Hotels Central  London  is  home  to  literally  hundreds  of  hotels.    You  can  find  hotels  that  are  part  of  every  major  international  hotel  chain,  as  well  as  many  independent  hotels.

Because  London’s  transportation  system  allows  you  to  get  around  central  London  so  quickly  and  efficiently,  we  recommend  that  you  stay  in  whichever  part  of  the  city  where  you’d  most  like  to  be  when  not  in  class,  and  then  take  the  Tube  or  a  bus  to  the  training  venue  each  day.

Sorry,  we  do  not  have  any  negotiated  rate  discounts  available  with  any  of  the  local  hotels.
