Exploring DoctrineEd Habre led a study from the

Highlighting Our Heritage series titled “Doctrine Part 1,” which addressed the doctrines of the Trinity, repentance, restitution, and healing. Brother Ed began by reading 1 Timothy 4:16 which states, “Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” He explained that doctrine is from the Word of God which is inspired and directed by God. By this means, God reveals Himself to mankind, instructing us in how to live, and giving hope for the life to come.

Exploring the doctrine of the Trinity, Brother Ed described the Triune God as consisting of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; three separate and distinct Persons who possess recognizable personalities and qualities yet are perfectly united as one.

of God. He has a purpose in what He allows. Followers of Christ need to trust the Lord and bow to His will, recognizing that He knows best.

In conclusion, Brother Ed reminded his listeners that the purpose of studying God’s Word is to submit one’s own will to God’s direction and purpose. When Christians do that, they live with doctrine, love it, and appreciate every opportunity to stand true to it for God’s glory and honor.

Brother Ed stated that the central attribute of God is love. God reaches out to mankind in love, but man gets to God through repentance. Repentance is godly sorrow for sins committed and the renunciation of them. A person who truly repents has to turn away from sin toward God. Repentance leads to salvation and that individual is a new creature in Christ Jesus.

One way this newness is displayed is in restitution. Restitution is not a natural thing to do, but when a person is saved and his sins are forgiven, he wants to make things right with his fellowman. Restitution is evidence of the heart change.

The final topic was divine healing. Brother Ed advised that when seeking healing, one should submit to the will

Seeking Deeper ExperiencesThe young people met in the

Fellowship Lodge on April 26 for dinner, fun, and a lesson on receiving deeper Christian experiences. The youth focus event started at 7:00 p.m. with a delicious BBQ dinner and homemade strawberry pie for dessert. Following this, the attendees divided into teams for a “Catch Phrase” competition, which is a word-guessing game where players describe a word and their teammates try to figure out the right word before time runs out.

Next, everyone moved to the general seating area for prayer requests, and then Erik Calhoun led a discussion on the evening’s topic. He started by having everyone write their spiritual

groups and discuss what is necessary to receive those experiences. The conclusions were that people must dig in and be determined to do whatever is required to receive. When people do this, it is guaranteed that God will

not only meet their needs, but He will “do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). The evening closed with a time of prayer.

needs on a small piece of paper, and then put the slips into one large bowl. Brother Erik then read several of the needs, many of which were for the experiences of sanctification and the baptism of the Holy Ghost. He said

it is one thing to acknowledge having a need, and it is another thing to be actively seeking to receive the answer to that need. He pointed out that most of the people in the room have been in Sunday school classes, youth retreats, teachings, etc., where spiritual experiences are clearly taught. Then he asked the audience to form small

Excerpts from Wednesday, May 1 Sam Ajayi, Director of South America Work, and his wife, Shade, were in Brazil this past week, visiting the saints in Sao Paulo who became part of the Apostolic Faith family a year ago. Brother Sam sent this report of their visit:

“Following last year’s establishment of an Apostolic Faith Church in the sprawling city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, there was a need to help the congregation become firmly rooted in Biblical doctrine and in the practices of the Apostolic Faith organization. Taking this into consideration, our first two services were Bible teachings focusing on the foundational Christian experiences.”

The Ajayis are now scheduled to visit the saints in Cajamarca, Peru.

Excerpts from Wednesday, May 8 Sam Ajayi, Director of South America Work, and his wife, Shade, visited our church in the Punchana neighborhood of Iquitos, Peru, for Sunday services. They sent this report of their visit:

“We began Sunday school with the children singing choruses, and then the teacher took them through the memory verse and lesson. The teachers have been using only the Primary Pals lessons, but the children have grown since our first visit, so one goal on this trip was to introduce the older students to the Answer curriculum.”

Excerpts from Friday, May 10 Our [Philippines] camp meeting was held at the headquarters church in Bagong Sikat, Nueva Ecija, from April 18-22, 2019, with a total of 388 brothers and sisters taking part this year.

The theme of this year’s summer camp was “God’s Salvation Plan” and was inspired by Psalms 18:46 which says, “The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.”

Just a few hours after sunset on day two we met together at the front lawn of the church building for the first ever Night of Worship: Music Under the Stars (pictured). The whole place was filled with rejoicing as we spent the evening lifting our voices to God and listening to the special numbers prepared by our brothers and sisters from different churches.

Hundreds of people came out to help spruce up the campground

facilities at the annual Memorial Day work party on May 27. Workers began trickling in around 7:30 a.m. for breakfast, and by 8:30, numerous teams were at work on a variety of projects. The main tasks were from the usual to-do list: dust and vacuum the tabernacle and camp office, set up the prayer room, scrub ten kitchenettes, sweep out over 250 cabins, clear debris from between the cabins, and power wash the fountains. Perhaps the most appreciated crew of the morning was the break team, who at 9:30 served up fresh coffee and hundreds of donuts!

In addition to the regular campground projects, teams put a fresh

coat of paint on several buildings, emptied storage cabins, moved furniture into the women’s dorm and various cabins, and spread two units of fresh bark dust in the flower beds around the front lawn. By about noontime, there were noticeable improvements all around the grounds! At 12:15 the Memorial Day band played the national anthem and then Darrel Lee led in prayer before the lunch line opened. The band continued playing patriotic favorites as workers waited for their turn to enjoy the burgers, baked

beans, potato salad, and fruit that had been provided. A tempting array of cookies, brownies, and cakes a la mode were served for dessert.

Getting the campground ready for camp meeting is a lot of work, but with help from so many people it does not take long to accomplish. Now we can look forward to seeing our camp meeting guests in less than five weeks!

On the Spot

Kristy Mom: Seek out a godly mentor who can

help answer questions as you study to know God’s Word, and who will encourage you and pray with you as you seek to know your newfound Savior.

Janice Calhoun: Do your devotions first thing in the morning. It will start your day out right.

Dave Lambert: Read the Bible, pray, and be in every church service you can possibly be in.

Kris Tonning: Get involved in church activities and spend time with fellow Christians.

Alicia Parker: Read your Bible, pray every day, or you’ll shrink, shrink, shrink! (I spend too much time in the Primary Department.)

Gus Calhoun: Be sure you read and pray, and remember God is in control. There will be trials, but just know that God can take care of them.

Mattias Tonning: Stay close to God, and get saved, sanctified, and baptized.

Holly Lambert: Read your Bible (the whole Bible) and pray every day.

The May youth focus session started with dinner at 7:00 p.m. on May 17. After eating, the group played a game to help get to know each other better. The game required each person to collect initials from people who met a variety of criteria, such as “Can recite 2 Timothy 3:16” or “Has been to Canada at least two times.” One of the requirements was to have someone give a strand of hair that was more than five inches long!

Next the groups moved to the general seating area to sing a couple of worship songs and share prayer requests. Following a prayer, Clark Wolfe led a discussion on the topic of relationships. He first spoke about how to start a relationship, and pointed out that in a relationship with God, it is always

By Amalie Tonning

The evening brought up many points about how to have healthy relationships with others and with God. Brother Clark mentioned that a lot of time is spent starting, building, repairing, and maintaining relationships. It’s important to know and employ tools for healthy relationships, most of all in our relationships with God.

God who initiates the relationship by showing His love and inviting people to be saved. Then Brother Clark spoke of ways to strengthen relationships through spending time together, sharing and listening, and making each other a priority. A number of Bible verses were used to highlight ways to strengthen a relationship with God, including Psalm 145:18, and Matthew 6:33. This will take effort, but anyone can have a strong relationship with God because He has promised it to everyone.

The session came to a close with Brother Clark speaking about things that damage relationships, such as a lack of communication or being unfaithful. Likewise, these problems will damage a relationship with God.
