INVESTING IN OUR CAMPUS
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTSTransfer applicants are accepted on the basis of academic records from an accredited college or university. Students must have a 2.5 cumulative transfer GPA for regular admission to the College. For admission consideration, applicants must:
Apply online at www.coe.edu/apply_transfer, complete and return a paper application form or fill out the Common Application.
Provide official transcripts for all colleges attended.
Provide official high school transcript.
TRANSFER CREDITSCoe accepts coursework that corresponds with that offered by a liberal arts college. Coursework must have received a grade of a “C” or higher to be approved for credit. Students will be granted junior standing for the completion of an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree provided the cumulative GPA is 2.5 or higher. The fulfillment of general education requirements will be reviewed on a course-by-course basis.
CREDIT EVALUATIONSAll credit evaluations are completed at the time of admission. A faculty academic advisor will work closely with you to create a schedule and ensure completion of your degree requirements.
Coe’s online Transfer Evaluation System (TES) is available for instant, unofficial credit evaluations at: www.coe.edu/creditpolicy_transfer. For coursework that is not listed in the TES database, please contact your admission counselor to discuss how those credits could transfer. It is possible that we will accept those credits.
The best way to find out what coursework will transfer is to bring your transcripts when you visit campus. When you leave, you will have a good idea as to how many courses you will need in order to complete your degree.
LIBERAL ARTS CORECoe’s liberal arts curriculum provides you with the foundation to pursue any endeavor. This holistic approach to education incorporates the following course requirements:
2 course credits in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics Core (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Math, Physics, Statistics)
2 course credits in the Social Sciences Core (Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology)
2 course credits in the Humanities Core (African-American Studies, American Studies, Classical Studies, Humanities, Creative Writing, English, French, German, History, Japanese, Philosophy, Religion, Rhetoric, Spanish)
1 course credit in the Fine Arts Core (Art, Art History, Film Studies, Music, Theatre)
2-3 course credits in the Diverse Cultural Perspectives Core (Foreign Language or select courses containing a diverse cultural component)
See Coe’s Course Catalog online (www.coe.edu/uploads/pdfs/academics/catalog.pdf) or
ask your admission counselor for details on accepted courses.
COE’S CREDIT SYSTEM Each semester-long course at Coe is given one Coe credit. Students are required
to have at minimum 32 course credits in order to graduate.
Four courses per term is considered a full load. In addition to fall and spring terms, students have the option to take one additional course credit during May Term.
One Coe credit is equivalent to four semester hours.
A three semester hour course transfers in as 0.75 course credits at Coe, but will fulfill the full requirement for any corresponding general education or major coursework.
COE CREDIT SEMESTER HOURS QUARTER HOURS
1.00 4 5
0.75 3 4
0.50 2 3
A maximum of 64 semester hours of transfer credit will be accepted from a two-year college. Credit earned in excess of 64 semester hours cannot be applied toward the minimum total hours required for a degree. However, this work is entered on your record and may be used to meet specific course requirements. Credit from four-year colleges and universities is limited to 96 semester hours. Students must earn at least eight course credits in residence at Coe to complete baccalaureate degree requirements.
FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID To maximize your financial aid and grant opportunities, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov. For full financial aid consideration, students must be admitted to the College and submit the FAFSA to Coe. The FAFSA can be submitted after October 1 by including Coe’s school code, 001854. Coe College’s Priority Deadline for filing the FAFSA is March 1.
