our government and our people. Common decencyand respect for laws written and established wellbefore modern day civilization came to roost arebeing ignored. Why is it that we can resist theauthority, of government officials when they areenforcing the law? When did it become okay toresist and repel the police when they are tasked toinvestigate illegal acts determined to be crimes.

I guess people have a sense of doing what they wantregardless of laws. When confronted about theirviolations, there are vehement denials or claims ofharassment by authority. "How dare they question mewhen I am committing this violation or activity thatwould later be determined to be a crime"! Peoplereally need to go to civics classes and learn the rulesestablished by this country, state and local laws. Those who are ignorant of the laws that exist reallydon't have an excuse. You really need to educateyourself and your children so they will be able to livea peaceful existence within their community.

Thousands of years ago. During the development ofcivilization in ancient Asia, the Emperor and it’srulers determined a need for law and order insociety. They enacted this measure realizing certainaspects of life must be maintained. There was a senseof responsibility to protect those within their domainand ensure that quality of life issues were met. Inother words, rules were made and had to befollowed. This was the beginning of what we nowcall police forces. From this inception and forthousands of proceeding years, societies have beenaware that with government actions, there must besome measure of stability. This was done to protectthe citizens and maintain peace law and order.

The US adopted the policy of policing from theBritish. This development by Sir Peele was thevehicle for modern policing. Law and order was thebasis of this policy and included all measures ofcrime prevention and response. Police departmentswere also tasked with maintaining and enforcing thelaws of the governments which ensures a greaterquality of life for it's citizens.

Unfortunately In modern day America, there is asense that law and order does not exist for all people. Some people seem to have forgotten that laws areenforced by the police are designated by our God,

How Have We Forgotten

Thomas Hollowell

Remember the last time you were driving down theroad and noticed that your gas tank was on "empty"?How did you feel? If you're like most of us, youstarted feeling just a little anxious.

You probably began thinking about how and when youwould find a gas station. You might have evenwondered (just for a few seconds) what it would belike if you ran out of gas. If your imagination were inhigh gear, you would have visualized yourselftrudging on foot to the nearest gasoline station, buyinga can of fuel (including the can!), then hiking back tothe car. What a trip!

Now switch scenarios. Recall what you felt like whenyou just filled the tank. You are confidently drivingwith an ample reserve of gas. No worries about fuel;no anxiety about running out.

Having a reserve of fuel for your car is very similar tohaving reserves for yourself. When you are running on"empty" with regard to time, money, space, love, faith, satisfaction, or companionship, you will feel thesame negative emotions you felt when driving with anempty gas tank.

So, what's the answer? Build reserves of all thesethings you need in your life. Identify the things thatare important to you, then set out to find ways ofhaving more than just the bare minimum of thesethings. Do what you have to do to create more thanenough love, attention, space, time, money and so on.

Let's get something straight first. Building morethan enough of something you need in your life isonly one part of the puzzle. The other piece is toidentify what is draining your reserves. If you'repouring into a leaky bucket, you won't make muchprogress.

Start today to plug the leaks and create amplereserves for yourself in all the areas where you haveneeds. Some suitable candidates may be time, money, space, safety/security, ideas, opportunities, friends, love, attention, self-esteem, confidence, energy, and fuel in the tank.

FILL YOUR TANK!

Can we rise to the challenge? There are few issues in our city more important or pressing than the state of publiceducation. Our city’s future economic, social, and civic well being is inextricablylinked to our ability to educate our children and prepare them to compete in a globaleconomy. The world our children live in today is vastly different from the one wegrew up in twenty or thirty years ago. Competition is more intense and opportunitiesare more difficult to come by. And at the same time technology has made the worldsmaller and more intimate, it has created a new playing field on which our childrenare falling further and further behind. The comparison is no longer between suburbanstudents and urban students, but rather American students and students around theworld.

New Jersey schools are some of the highest performing in the nation; but sadly, notmany public schools in urban areas are on that list. Failing schools have beenresponsible for the stunted intellectual development of tens of thousands of childrenwho entered this world with unlimited potential. And because of our collective failureto nurture and expand the minds of our children, many of them will face nearinsurmountable odds for the rest of their lives. I believe that all of us have anenlightened self-interest (and I would go so far as saying a moral obligation) inmaking sure that every child receives a great education.

Instead of working together for an outcome I believe we all share, much time andenergy is wasted talking past each other instead of working with each other. There’san old saying that the Masai tribe in Kenya uses. When they encounter each other theydon’t say, like we do, “How are you?” They say, “How are the children?” Thisgreeting is both profound and revealing in that it gives a clear indication of what isimportant to the elders. If we can manage to keep the children in the forefront andpolitics and other agendas in the background, we might surprise ourselves by what wewould be able to accomplish.

the lung cancer death rate is about1/2 that of continuing smokers. After 15 Years: The risk of heartdisease is restored to that of non-smokers!

Understand that its never too late!No matter when you stop therewill be a an improvement in yourhealth. Also know this, that thisspeaks true for drug addiction, food addiction, sexual addiction, alcoholism, and most other thingsthat we indulge ourselves inwhich are hurting our bodies.

Never think that it too late to get afresh start. Examine your life andidentfy those things witch are notbeneficial to the progress youwant, and your will win byquitting.

The gargantuan challenge of improving our schools, by necessity, must be the sharedresponsibility of every stakeholder in the city – universities, corporations, foundations, CBO’s, residents, and most importantly parents. If our schools fail thestain will be on all of our hands.

Unless we change this counterproductive practice, the much-needed improvement weseek in our schools will not likely occur. As neighbors, friends, colleagues, andcaring stakeholders we owe it to the children to make an extraordinary effort to findcommon ground where we can. We need to press the reset button, reflect on what isat stake, and shift the focus back to where it belongs - our children.Fixing our schools will not come as the result of a “big fix.” And as the professionalspursue systemic reform we must not loose sight that each failing or underperformingschool operates in real time, with different challenges that require immediate and on-going assistance. This assistance can range from much needed equipment andsupplies, to more competent and capable teachers and school leaders.

As our schools are a part of the larger community, I believe we should offer them oursupport. There are simple but important things we can do regardless of our views oncharter versus district schools. I am asking that you join me in identifying a school inneed that would welcome and benefit from our collective support. What form theassistance takes will be determined by discussions between the group of volunteersand the school leadership.

I am hoping that a growing number of you will realize that we can make a profounddifference by offering small amounts of our time and our resources. I hope you willrespond to this call for action by contacting me via email:[email protected]. Iwill contact you using the information you provide in your email. Approximately aweek from this post I will pick a place we can meet to discuss the kind of support wewill be able to provide.

The longer term goal is to make the school that “we” choose a “community school”– a central location where projects and activities can occur that will not only benefitthe school but the surrounding community. And in case you have doubts about ourability to take on this challenge, I will leave you with the powerful words ofanthropologist Margaret Mead:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change theworld; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

remind you. A great way to begin yourcelebration is to start each day with a 10minute meditation and stretching. After thefirst three days add more movement into yourday. Then begin to consciously chosehealthier foods, mini meals with smallportions (no more than 5 per day) and workyour way from there. Before you know it, itwill be time to celebrate your first month ofhealthier living. It’s hot. (let’s not forget the long coldwinter). If you are one of those people whodo not like water, the following is a possiblesolution to staying hydrated during thesummer. If you do like water, then thesesuggestions will give you an extra treat.Remember heat exhaustion can sneak up onyou. Make sure you hydrate.REMEMBER: sugary drinks take longer toprovide the body’s cells with fluid, andprovides less fluid once digested.-Reverend Jerri Mitchell-Lee

There have been a lot of dates set aside forcelebrating during the past months.Holidays, birthdays, beach days, carnivals, parades and the list is endless. With all thiscelebration everyone should add one moreoccasion to celebrate… the date you made ahealthy decision to begin to eat right, exercise, get regular checkups and includemental health on your check list. When we write or program an event on ourcalendars, we tend to remember the event asoppose to just saying it in our minds. Infact you can even set an alarm ornotification of an event to remind you onyour tablet or cell phone. This very momentis an excellent time to schedule a date onyour calendar or in your appointment bookto celebrate your day to begin a healthierlifestyle. You can begin by setting a date tocelebrate once a month. This way if you getoff schedule, there will be a monthly date to

THEYWORK TO PROSPER, NOT JUSTWORK TOWORKWhile many people go to work out of routine they go to work to get ahead, to accomplishdreams and goals... work is simply a means to a desired end result.

THEYWORKWITH AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNTOF DRIVEThe are driven and pushy to the point which might offend some people; but they knowthat in order to succeed you must think outside of the box, focus, and push harder thanothers.

THEY NEVERMAKE EXCUSESUnsuccessful people can justify and explain why they failed, but successful people knowthat excuses will not change the outcome, so they don't waste time making them.

EVERYDAY THEY FOCUSON THEIR GOALSThe average person watches 4-6 hours of TV a day and only writes out goals once or twicea year! To be successful you must stay focused and write, and re-write you goals daily!

THEY AREWILLING TO FAILWhile unsuccessful people "play it safe"... Successful people realize that without takingchances you cannot achieve greatness. They risk failure, criticism and ridicule for the sakeof putting their goals into action. At worst you lean from your mistakes, but at best, youmake your dreams a reality!

If you begin to do these things daily you will soon realize that your life as well as yourbusiness will start to change for the better. Remember that in order to be successful youmust be willing to do what other people are not. These are the things that successfulpeople do everyday and others do not. - Pastor Rick

BUSINESS TRANSFORMATIONGETTING THE ORDER

Many key decision makers are overwhelmed withsales calls. And they are great at saying "No." Sohow do you get to the person who has the authorityto give you an order?

DON'T ASK FOR THE ORDER ASK FOR ADVICEWhile they may say no to your pitch many arewilling to assist those who come to them for advice.the truth of the matter is that it causes them to feelgood about themselves. so they are willing to investand mentor those who are willing to take theiradvice seriously. Do this and you automaticallyposition yourself for them to want to buy from you.

What Is Your Personal Strategic Plan?

Relationship expert and radio host Pastor Rick talksabout Dating, Love, Marriage, Sex, and Divorce;

WATCH OUT FOR JEALOUSY

Couples need to be aware of this enemy. Satan willtalk to you and put thoughts into your heads. Don’tallow this to happen. Some will get angry even ifthey see their partner talking to another person ofthe opposite sex.

This reveals a few things, two of which are:

1) A lack of trust. If you and your partner are“going to make it” there must be trust. And trust isbuild on communication and a willingness to giveof oneself. Tell your partner what makes youuncomfortable, express your feelings, share yourthoughts and fears. A healthy response should beone of understanding if not agreement. Neverdismiss anyone’s feelings no matter howunfounded it appears to you, it is very real forthem. So proceed in love, understanding, andcompromise.

2) An insecurity. Many people show jealousy asan expression of their own insecurities. They feelas though they do not quite “measure up” to beworthy of another’s love, trust, and respect. Sowhen their partner shows any interest in someoneof the opposite sex the “warning alert” sounds andthey feel threatened so they spring into an oftenmisguided and unjustified jealous reaction.

If you find yourself facing that “green eyedmonster”called jealousy it may be helpful toremember all of the times that you shared filledwith love and passion. Remember all of the timeswhen your partner surprised you with gifts andniceties simply because they loved you. And askyourself the question are they really doinganything out of the ordinary by talking to amember of the opposite sex? If the answer is nothen you might want to give them the benefit of thedoubt. Don't let one misunderstood moment cancelout hundreds of good memories you’ve shared andput an end to a future and a lifetime with the oneyou love.

Corporations do it. Entrepreneurs do it (well, some of them). Many successful businessesdevelop a strategic plan to help them get clarityand focus. For years, I've been helpingbusinesses develop their strategic plan. A fewyears ago, it occurred to me that you could havea personal strategic plan that would help youindividually get clarity and focus on your ownpreferred future.Set aside a couple of hours thismonth to contemplate your Preferred Future forthe next 3 years. Don't get hung up on the smallstuff. Look beyond today and this week and thismonth. For this breakthrough strategy, identifythe six or seven aspects of your personal life thatare seriously important to you. Generally, we seecategories such as: Family, Spiritual Journey,Health, Social Involvement, IntellectualGrowth, and Financial Health.

In each of these areas, develop a crystal clearvision of where you are going with this.Describe as best you can what it looks like andwhat it feels like when you have reached thepoint in each of your key result areas where youare happy with each. This represents a picture of

I showed here, on August 9th, afreestanding clock at Military Park,Downtown, whose eastern face had nohands. Today's foto shows the western face, which has both of its expected hands — butdisplays the wrong time.

The clock, as shown in this picture, indicates that the time is 7:47 — a.m. orp.m. makes no difference with a 12-hour,analog clock, because the sky could be briteblue in either the morning or the evening. As it happens, in that I am rarely out andabout early in the morning, the clock shouldhave been showing the time for lateafternoon or evening. The time when Iactually took the foto was 5:26 p.m.,August 17th, 2014.

Now, someone please explain to me why anewly renovated Military Park should havea clock one side of which has no handswhatsoever and the other side of whichshows the wrong time. Am I being toodemanding in saying that a CLOCK shouldshow the right time?
