TRANSFORMED IN MY WORSHIP
TRANSFORMED IN MY CHOICES
TRANSFORMED IN MY POSSESSIONS
TRANSFORMED IN MY ACTIONSTRANSFORMED IN MY PLANS
TRANSFORMED IN MY PRAYER
TRANSFORMED IN MY…
WORSHIPMATTHEW 6:1-8, 16-18
THE POINT…Giving, praying and
fasting are disciplines of personal worship
DISCUSS: WHAT COMES TO MIND WHEN YOU THINK OF WORSHIP?
WORSHIP IS FOR AN AUDIENCE OF ONE.WORSHIP IS BOTH PRIVATE AND
PUBLIC.
THE DISCIPLINE OF GIVING
CONSIDER GIVING AS AN ACT OF WORSHIP.
IT HAS TO BE A DEVOTION
• Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
• 2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
• 3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
• 4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
THE DISCIPLINE OF WORSHIPFUL GIVING
1.I recognize You own it all.2.I recognize You as my Provider and all I have is from You.3.I am thankful for my salvation in Christ.4.I want to join You in Your work in the lives of others.5.I recognize my giving is an opportunity to be Your hands and feet to the poor.6.I recognize that You reward faithful obedience, and even as i give, You will continue to take care of me.
LET’S TALK: How would you describe the connection between GIVING and WORSHIP?
THE PRACTICE OF PRAYING
ACKNOWLEDGE PRAYING AS AN ACT OF WORSHIP.
IT HAS TO BE A PRACTICE.
•5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
• 6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
• 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
• 8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
THE PRACTICE OF WORSHIPFUL PRAYINGNB: Jesus’ warning doesn’t diminish the value of public prayer in worship. Jesus was addressing the motive of the heart.1.The hypocrites headed to the street corners and made a great show of their prayers. Since God knew their hearts, their actions didn’t impress Him.
2.Jesus said we should pray in the same way we give: humbly and privately. As with giving, Jesus wasn’t speaking against praying publicly; He spoke against praying for the attention and approval of others.3.When we pray, we’re to focus our attention on God.
LET’S TALK: What prevents prayer from being an act of worship?
THE DISCIPLINE OF FASTING
ACKNOWLEDGE FASTING AS AN ACT OF WORSHIP.
IT POSITIONS US FOR THE PRESENCE & POWER OF GOD.
•16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
• 17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
• 18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
THE DISCIPLINE OF WORSHIPFUL FASTING1.I choose to abstain from food and some pleasures for a period of time for the purpose of growing closer to the Lord.
2.I choose to humble myself, realizing my weaknesss, and trusting in Your strength.
3.I disconnect myself from anything that easily entangles and set all my desires on You.
LET’S TALK: Why is fasting such a neglected discipline in most churches?
GOD BLESS YOU ….
