based on "sex, race, color, ethnicity,

national origin, age, familial status,

marital status, military status, religion,

disability, sexual orientation, genetic

information, gender identity, or

pregnancy."

Sex Biological category based on a typical set of characteristics including internal reproductive organs, external genitalia, and chromosomes. Gender is NOT the same as sex.

Sexual Orientation Refers to the sex a person is physically and romantically

attracted to. Categories include heterosexual,

homosexual and bi-sexual. Transgender is NOT a

sexual orientation.

GENDER- Cultural and social attitudes, feelings, and behaviors associated with a person’s biological sex.

GENDER SOCIALIZATION- How society says a person should appear, act, play, work, etc…based on gender and sex.

GENDER IDENTITY- A person’s sense of self and gender characteristics they relate to inside of themselves.

GENDER EXPRESSION- How a person chooses to communicate their gender identity to the world.

TRANSGENDER– When a person’s biological sex and gender not align with their gender identity.

* May or may not align with a person’s biological sex.
