AIMS OF TRANSITION YEAR
• Education for MATURITY with emphasis on social awareness and increased social competence.
• Promotion of general, technical and academic SKILL with an emphasis on inter-disciplinary and self-directed learning.
• Education through experience of ADULT and WORKING LIFE as a basis for personal development and maturity.
What is Transition Year?• Transition Year will help make the transfer
from Junior Cycle to Leaving Certificate. It offers a unique opportunity to develop in a number of important areas:
• Personal To help you develop your personality and character towards a more positive and confident self-image
• Study/Work To develop independent work and study habits appropriate to the Senior Cycle
• Career To become familiar with workplaces outside school and possible career paths
• Social To become more informed about society and more skilled at dealing with people
The Transition Year should offer students space to learn, mature and develop
In addition to traditional style homework, TY students are also asked to undertake projects, assignments, interviews, research and other tasks
Core Subjects: English,Irish,Maths,French, Religion, PE
Sample Subjects: Leaving Cert. Subjects –Modules of 18 weeks
TY modules: Microsoft Training/Online Testing, Film Studies, Drama, Sign Language, LCVP, Spanish, Road Safety, Enterprise, Environment, Gender Studies, First Aid, Top Button Interactive Blog/Website, Gardening.

1. Assessment of Modules: Two reports at Christmas and Summer
2. Work Experience Reports: An Employer’s Report, Teacher’s Report and Student Work Experience Evaluations
3. Student TY Portfolio: This will be a collection of the student’s work over the year
