6R80Wrong Gear Starts, Possible P0720 and P0722 OSS CodesFord/LincolnSeptember, 2014
Technical Bulletin #1639
6R80Wrong Gear Starts, Possible P0720 and P0722 OSS CodesThe following information pertains to these vehicles: 2011-2014 Mustang, 2011-2013 F150, 2012-2013 Expedition and 2012-2013 navigator with 6R80 transmission built before 4/8/2013.
The transmission may start off in 5th gear and possible codes of P0720 and P0722 for the output speed sensor. Also the speedometer reads zero and odometer may display dashes while driving. The wrench light may be on, along with seat belt warning light.
Ford has issued a TSB 13-6-8 for these conditions and wants you to update the molded lead frame on the valve body. The updated part number at this time is AL3Z-7G276-A but we always recommend you to check for updated part numbers.

Allison 1000 with MP1625/MP1626 TCGear Ratio Codes, Possible Grinding NoiseGM 2007-2012 with MP 1625/1626 Transfer Case and Allison TransmissionSeptember, 2014
Technical Bulletin #1640
Allison 1000 with MP1625/MP1626Gear Ratio Codes, Possible Grinding NoiseA truck comes to the shop with a P0734 a 4th gear ratio code (other codes are possible) but feels like it drives good with no problems. A common problem is a broken snap ring in the transfer case that holds the rear output bearing on the rear output shaft (figure 1). We can perform a clutch test on a capable scan tool to see if the problem is in the transmission. If the clutch test passed we need to look at the transfer case. When this snap ring breaks it causes an intermittent signal from the vehicle speed sensor.

#1640The fix is to replace snap ring. Some shops are machining the snap ring groove wider to fit a wider snap ring. (Figure 2)
A special thanks to David Crow for taking the time and sending us the pictures for this bulletin.

AW55-50/51SNTCC CyclingAllSeptember, 2014
Technical Bulletin #1643
AW55-50/51SNTCC CyclingLate model vehicles equipped with the AW55-50/51SN transmission and a complaint of TCC cycling before or after rebuild may be caused by installing a set of 2 wheel drive planets into an all-wheel drive vehicle. This rebuild error may or may not set any ratio codes.
There may or may not be any TCC or slip codes stored or malfunction indicator lamps illuminated. See chart below for planet pinion, sun and ring gear identification. Always count the teeth on parts being replaced during overhaul.
