China risingPotential and opportunities for your business

China expects to invest USD 235 billion in civil air transport infra-structure by 2015, of which USD 53 billion is for airport construction and upgrades. The goal is to operate 230 airports by 2015. The majority of new airports will be in the rural west and central area of China, in support of the government’s “Go West” development plan.

With 3.7 million tons shipped p.a., China’s domestic air cargo market is second only to that of the US. And, based on an expected in-crease in GDP of nearly 7 % per year over the next 20 years, the country’s air cargo industry is set to grow at an annual rate of 6.9 %.

Over the last 30 years, China has continuously expanded its trans-port and logistics infrastructure to support the country’s rapid eco-nomic growth.

However, to facilitate China’s trans-formation from an investment-led to an innovation- and consumption-driven economy, the government is developing effective institutional mechanisms for integrated infra-structure development, multimodal transport hubs and logistics cen-ters. The aim is to achieve an inter-connected network and make full use of information and communi-cations technology in logistics.
