Peden Bloodstock have been appointed by Rio2016 to coordinate Equine Transport,

Quarantine, Health, Logistics & Stable Management for the 2016 Olympic &

Paralympic Games

STATISTICS

• It is anticipated that some 312 horses, from in excess of 40 nations, accompanied by a limited number of attendants and 100,000kgs of equipment will travel to and from Rio on an estimated 28 flights.

• We anticipate that 90 percent of all participating horses will originate in Europe with the balance travelling from North & South America.

EQUESTRIAN FREIGHT MANUAL

• A comprehensive Equestrian Freight Manual will be published as soon as the details of Air Freight and Health requirements are confirmed.

• We anticipate this will be published prior to the FEI General Assembly 2015.

• Additional hubs may be established in South America at RIO2016’s discretion

AIRCRAFT

• EU - B777F wide bodied aircraft - 11 seats - Maximum 20 stalls (40 horses in wide stalls) - Non-stop EU > Brazil & Return - Flight Time 11 hours ex EU - 2 Peden Pro Grooms per flight - NF seating allocated pro-rota (groom or vet) - Min. One NF Vet per aircraft

ARRIVAL IN RIO

• Peden Team will execute all operations at GIG airport. ** No flights for 2015 Test Event

• Testing with Domestic Horses planned late 2015

• Night Time arrival and departures to minimise impact of road traffic

• The unloading area (transfer ramp) is located some 500 meters away from the aircraft parking position.

• Operational area at RIO GIG Airport is a secure and restricted area and will not be accessible to any team officials with the exception of those accompanying their horses on the flights.

• European Trucks

EQUIPMENT

• Peden will book 300kgs of equipment to travel per horse on the horse flights.

• NFs must provide Peden with an accurate weight of the equipment to travel with the horses by 30th April 2016.

• All equipment will be transported at the respective NFs expense, rates for this will be found in the Freight Manual. Please note we cannot guarantee to fly any overweight equipment on the horse flights.

• We strongly recommend that each NF/NOC/NPC

should make arrangements to forward by sea all bulk items such as feed etc., well in advance of the Olympic/Paralympic Games.

FEED, HAY AND MEDICINES

• Covered by KER

• Medicines are permitted: import subject to strict procedures

• No active biological ingredients

• Peden will assist NFs with import of meds

• Record of use in Rio

• Re-export of unused meds permitted

FREIGHT GRANT

• Rio2016 will pay the airfreight, fuel and security charges for all qualified horses to travel in 112 cms wide stalls (two horses per pallet) to and from Rio on flights organised by Peden.

• A Brazilian domestic transport subsidy (rate

TBC) will be provided by RIO2016 to NFs

RESERVE HORSES

• Official Reserve Horses are permitted to travel on the Olympic flights

• The airfreight charges for official reserve horses will be for NOCs/NFs accounts @ a projected US$17.500,00 per horse in wide stalls round trip to be confirmed in the freight manual.

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

• Awaiting Final Agreement • Modified Athina Onassis Protocol • Not HHP • 14 days vet supervision • No residency requirements • Various Country and Premises disease freedom • EIA, WNV,Piro Testing • Piro Positive are accepted and will not be stabled

separately • All horses to be microchipped

HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: NEXT STEP

• Modified Onassis Protocol Adopted

• EU horses:

– Brussels will liaise with Brazil on behalf of all Member States

– Brussels will distribute the protocol to the government of each Member State

• Non EU:

– Peden will liaise directly with all governments to ensure that they implement the protocol

BRAZIL ORIGIN HORSES

• A strict health protocol for entry into the venue will be in place

• Monitoring of the location of the Brazil origin horses during the 6 months prior to entry to Deodoro will be required

• It is anticipated that any horses residing in Brazil prior to the Olympic Games (even for a short time) will have to enter into an approved 3rd country for minimum 3 months before returning to EU

• Brazil Origin horses may be required to stable separately to other horses on the venue

RETURNING TO HUBS OF ORIGIN

• All horses temporarily imported into Brazil must be re-exported to their hub of origin after the Games

• EU – The venue, airport and corridor is regionalised in EU legislation – The rest of Brazil is closed to the EU – We must maintain this Olympic regionalised zone under strict

biosecurity throughout build up to Games and during Games in order that horses may return to EU after competition

– Horses may not leave the regionalised zone during their stay

• USA – Currently requires 7 days post arrival quarantine on return to USA

• South America Countries – Will be negotiated on an individual basis

• There are no facilities available in Rio to receive horses outside the official arrival windows (Olympics 29th July and Paralympics 2nd September).

INFORMATION FLOW

• We will be utilising Hippobase to allow all NOCs/NFs to supply and update horse and attendant information on line.

• This will include the facility to scan in horse and attendant passports copies, supply vaccination details, test results and horse movements details.

NEXT STEPS

• As soon as the carrier is officially appointed Peden will finalise all flight schedules

• EFM will be published when

– The health protocol is confirmed by Brazil and all countries of origin; and

– flight dates are agreed.

• EFM will detail all preparatory procedures and requirements.
