Four transportation systemsGeorgia is the center for transportation in the Southeast because of its strategic location.Georgias four transportation systems (air, water, rail, & highway) have been instrumental in the economic growth and development of the state.Savannah began as a major trading port.

Four transportation systemsEach new technological advancement in transportation (i.e. cargo ships, trains, cars, planes) has made it easy for the state to be involved in national and international trade, while creating jobs for Georgians. The four transportation systems work together, transferring cargo among various modes of transport to provide Georgians with goods produced in the U.S. and around the world.

The interstate highway systemThree of the nations important interstate highways (I-20, I-75, I-95) pass through Georgia. The three highways continue to ensure Atlantas role as the Southeasts most important transportation hub.The Interstate Highway System was created to connect major cities around the country, thus increasing interstate trade and improving the nations defense.Georgia currently has 1,244 miles of interstate highway.
